Thank you, TDC, for the scholarship award of $200, which went toward 4 1/2 lessons with pat Baker. Two of the lessons were my last two opportunities to ride with Pat on "Laramie," who I have been riding and showing for the last four years. We had been working on the basics of straightness, quality of movement, and the timing of my aids. Laramie and I were successfully schooling the movements of the fourth level tests.
I would finally smile when I would hear pat say, "You could SHOW with that half pass." Laramie is now ridden exclusively by Shelley Rosenberg, who will take her the rest of the way to Grand Prix.
I am continuing my lessons with pat on "Johannes," a five-year-old Friesian gelding. We are also working on straightness, quality of movement, and my aids. (This never-ending process of learning how to ride is also my job security as an instructor.) Jonny has a ground-covering stride, and pat is helping me curb my tendency to shorten his neck. Pat's experience with Friesians, as well as her knowledge of how to improve self-carriage, has really contributed to our progress.
Thanks again for the scholarship award.
