BARN NEWS
Rancho del Corazon

Rancho del Corazon has a new working student for these first months of 2001. Jodi Quilling, from Fotine, Montana, arrived in Benson on January 1, 2001, with her two horses, Duncan and Gresco. Jodi is rated C3 in Pony Club, has earned her Level 2 in Parelli Natural Horsemanship, and had competed at First Level dressage.

Ellie has been traveling a lot since the first of January. She was in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in early January for a clinic at Mike and Maggie Coombs. Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was the next destination. The college has completed phase one of its facility development with a beautiful 100 foot by 200 foot indoor, heated, and dust-free arena. The clinic was a natural horsemanship and dressage format for the students in the equine program at the school.

Jodi and Michelle Manshardt accompanied Ellie to the Scottsdale All Arabian Horse Show the week of February 19th.  This was the third year that Ellie and her team gave daily demonstrations on dressage principles in a 70' round pen outside the Equidome.  Ellie rode Rachel Tanenbaum's Snowden, who represented a large moving horse starting to develop collection with softness and balance. Michelle rode her Arab/Morgan cross gelding, Razzberry, a confirmed Second Level horse. Razzberry performed all the correct movements with and WITHOUT his bridle. Michelle and Razzberry clearly demonstrated the level of confidence, trust, and harmony that they have worked so hard to develop.

Jodi and her five-year-old Anglo/Westphalian, Gresco, represented a pair at training level with a very solid foundation. Jodi showed lovely, harmonious liberty work with Gresco and finished with him giving a gentlemanly bow.  This was Gresco's first horse show experience, having grown up in a small town in Montana.  His trust and confidence in Jodi allowed him to comfortably deal with all the insanity that went on in that carnival atmosphere.

Since November, Traxx has been performing his role as School Master for Josh Coleman with very satisfying results. Josh has already earned the 60% scores at Third Level for his USDF Bronze Medal and Fourth Level for his Silver Medal.

CLINIC REVIEW
Riding with Inez Propfe-Credo
  by Anna Calek

February 17-18, 2001, Glenda Toll graciously offered her jewel of a place for a clinic with Inez Propfe-Credo, an FEI "I" Judge and Olympic competitor.  Glenda's place had an excellent for arena for those riding and an intimate setting for those auditing to see and hear.

For a competitor, Inez is the judge of choice.  The scores you earn are fair and generous.  The written commentts at the bottom of the test are always positive and instructive.
For a rider, Inez as a clinician is fabulous! Inez is not be missed. This state

ment is from someone who has participated in lots of clinics.

During the two days a diversity of horse and rider capabilities was shown. The emphasis was on maintaining impulsion.  The rider's position should produce clear aids to help the horse develop a better rhythm and cadence.

How fortunate for us that Inez has made Tucson her home. The level of dressage knowledge has increased quite dramatically without taking anything away from the dressage expertise already to be found here.
