Accident Victim
1 Samuel 20:3
Life is unpredictable!
The suddenness of (name) death brings sadness and shock to our hearts,
and we cannot but help to wonder why.
Proverbs 27: 1 reminds us that we know "not what a day may bring forth."
David realized, at one point in his journey of life, that "there is but a step between me and death."
(1 Samuel 20: 3)
Life is brief at best!
God does not give assurance against accidents, hardships, failure, trouble, or suffering.
Too often, people have thought Christianity to be a miracle drug.
They have thought that Christianity would miraculously make life easy without suffering and pain.
The purpose of Christianity is not to avoid difficulty, but to produce a character adequate to meet difficulty when it comes.
Christianity does not give us escape from life's burdens, but it does give us strength for meeting them when they come.
Sorrow is universal.
No one can escape it.
Man is born to trouble.
Job faced it long ago.
- He had a tremendous fortune of landholdings.
- He had seven sons and three daughters.
- He had everything -- fame, faith, family, fortune, friends, -- then the future changed.
- Enemies fell on his grazing flocks killing the herdsman and driving all the cattle away.
- Fire destroyed his crops.
- His children were instantly killed.
- Job was afflicted with ulcer-like sores from head to foot.
- He was overwhelmed with grief.
Today, we face a world filled with pain, suffering, accidents, trouble, and tribulations.
In such a time as this there is One who can bring light out of darkness, who can heal the heart that is broken by grief,
who can bring peace of soul and strength of spirit.
That One is the God whom Paul called,
"The God of all comfort, who comforteth us in all our tribulations." (2 Corinthians 1: 3-4)
"When sorrow comes, as come it must,
In God a man must put his trust.
There is no power in mortal speech
The anguish of his soul to reach,
No voice, however sweet and low
Can comfort him or ease the blow.
We realize how helpless then
Are all the gifts of mortal men.
No words which we have power to say
Can take the sting of grief away --
That Power which marks the sparrow's fall
Must convert and sustained us all."
- God did not fail Job.
- He did not fail Paul.
- He did not fail Christ.
- He will not fail you.
"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."
"Let not your hearts be troubled..."
- May God put His arms of love around this family, and may you feel the warmth and comfort of the presence of Jesus.
- May we hide in our hearts these words of hope, which come from the Word of God.
- May each of us make sure of our relationship with God by being certain we have placed our faith in Jesus.
He is the Resurrection and the Life!
And when we know we have passed from death to life, we will long for the day when we come
into the very presence of our loving Lord.
"Face to face with Christ, my Saviour,
Face to face -- what will it be?
When with rapture I behold him,
Jesus Christ who died for me.
Face to face I shall behold him
Far beyond the starry sky.
Face to face in all his glory
I shall see him by and by."
