A 15th International Course on
Endoscopic Surgery of the Paranasal Sinuses is organized at the Free University
of Brussels by Prof. P. Clement and at the University of Cologne (Köln,
Lindenthal) by Prof. E. Stennert. §
The AIM
OF THE COURSE is to familiarize ENT specialists with this type of
surgery, which represents one of the major advances in paranasal sinus surgery
of the last decade. The course will take place in two major historic cities of
Europe. The official start will be
in the university of Brussels. This dynamic
combination of interactive lectures, demonstrations and laboratory dissection of
cadaver material is designed to update and enhance the skills of eligible
otolaryngologists. This course provides an in-depth study of the surgical
anatomy, of the Messerklinger and
Wigand technique, hands-on cadaver dissection, live surgery, post operative
care. Demonstrations by and discussion with the faculty members are included.
Basic as well as advanced techniques will be discussed (the difficult frontal
recess and sinus, orbital and optic nerve decompression, lacrimal sac surgery).
Every participant can familiarize himself with these types of surgery on 2
cadaver heads (one in Brussels, one in Cologne), one documented by high
resolution CT scans. The latest technical achievements in this type of surgery
are demonstrated, such as 3D CT navigation, powered instruments etc. Competent
