How do the Scouts get their books signed off?

Each 11 ASM (Assistant Scout Master) for 11 year-old Scouts is responsible to ensure that a Scout has fulfilled the requirements. The classes are pretty short, so the instructor will not have time to make sure that each Scout is able to fulfill the requirements. The ASM should take the opportunity over the day to ensure that each Scout gets a solid grasp of the material. Many of the skills can be practiced immediately at the camp.

Where can I find Day Camp Patches?

LDS Day Camp patches are a standard item available from Church Distribution. Your Ward Clerk may order them or you can order them online directly from the Church here.

Does my patrol have to participate in the campfire?

All patrols that are in camp on Friday evening are required to be at the campfire. Each troop should be prepared to perform their troop cheer. All Scouts should have their uniform on ("class A").

What about fire safety?

Each troop should follow BSA guidelines as outlined in the Guide to Safe Scouting.  A printable version can be found here. These guidelines include information about appropriate use of fuels, extinguishers, etc. In addition, each troop should follow the Unit Fireguard practices, Unit Fireguard, No. 33691A (a downloadable one will be added soon). Troops should be familiar with the policies prior to going on outings. Also, Leave No Trace principles should be taught and practiced. Any fires in camp should be small and no trace left when the troop is finished.

How is the competition going to work?

The competition will be conducted in a round-robin format. All patrols should participate.  The competition will be run in four 15-minute sessions. Prior to the competition, all of the patrols will be divided into one of four groups. Each group will then take turns rotating around the various competition areas. Each area will have it's own judging method, and a first, second and third place will be awarded to the top scorer of that area (combined from all sessions). Orienteering and Wood Tools will have awards, but will be judged during the class time and not in the competition.
