I came up with this idea way back around 1987 or '88 when I sent letters to my girlfriend (who later became my wife) so I have to give her total credit for these. I only have a couple of them left from way back then and looking back, they weren't that great. But I started doing some new ones this year which can be seen below. Look for the hidden penguin in each one.

My first one, based on old maps made in the 15 and 1600's.

One for the holidays.

One I made up but roughly based on the Death Star and an Imperial Cruiser.

The one for which I am the most proud. It's the view from the back of the ship in the previous envelope. I had fun doing this one but it took FOREVER! That's me playing the solitaire game on the left. I'm bored.

A colorful undersea envelope. I cheated a little and bumped up the intensity of the color after I scanned it.

I decided to do more "holiday themed" ones. After I finished the big ogre on the right, I noticed he looks a lot like one of the "wild things".

The Thanksgiving one is going to go here - Coming soon.

I took tremendous liberties with the specific design of the buildings from this time. If anyone sees this who is an expert in turn-of-the-century New York architecture, they will be extremely annoyed with me. I was just unable to find good pictures to work from. Also, the width of the street and sidewalks is markedly reduced. I wanted to include plenty of buildings on either side of the composition and if I had reduced the scale of the people, a lot of detail in them would have been lost. Other than that, this is one of which I’m extremely proud. Just for fun, I included the “drinking girl” I have in all of my bar pictures.

I chose the 1890’s as the time period for this Valentine’s Day envelope. I put a guy proposing to a woman in a fancy restaurant but wanted to include a few silly things too. A barefoot woman, a woman eating a brain, a guy about to walk onto a rollerskate, a guy eating a squid tentacle, a cat playing with a glass eye (the guy in the eyepatch is walking around thinking “Where is that glass eye?”), and instead of a third violinist, I put a guy playing a tuba. I also put two penguins in this one. See if you can find them.
