Music

What is good music? I guess it could be anything for anyone (which is where all the shit bands come from, I guess- because someone was stupid enough to like/encourage them in the first place..ugh...). With that in mind, I think we should look beyond people and their un-asked-for (and usually terrible) opinions on music...and just focus in on mine.

The Beatles are the place to start. It really doesn't matter what Beatles album you have, they all play out better than the average greatest hits compilations of the lesser groups. A person can put on a Beatles record and listen to it straight through. Solo stuff was/is fantastic, too. Most people forget what fantastic musicians the Beatles were, too. John's driving chords. Paul's melodic basslines. Ringo's atmospherically perfect drum fills and beat. George's masterful guitar solos. Not only that but they all could sing. Not to mention they were the greatest songwriters/ sonic pioneers in recorded history.

But the Beatles (as a group or solo) aren't the end of it. Led Zeppelin are fantastic rockers, even when they aren't rocking (the English folk piece The Battle of Evermore is a prime example). Simon and Garfunkel were real folk rock tunesmiths, as was Donovan (although his was a much more psychadelic scottish folk). The Beach Boys (and hear me out on this) were really something as they moved out of beach music and into really meaningful mastepieces like Pet Sounds and the recently released SMiLE. Doors , Rush, Pink Floyd, the Byrds, and Cream are really gear, too. Lets not forget Hendrix, of course, not only the greatest but also the most influential guitarist in rock (its answer to Segovia). Last but far from least, Bob Dylan and his trippy, winding lyrics has never dissapointed me (even on the early single-acoustic-guitar/voice/harmoinca folk albums).

First off, here are some cool lyrics
