April "Pools" Day The Glendale Fire Department and the Glendale Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up to host “April Pool’s Day” on Saturday, April 28, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Community Pool at Glendale Community College, 6000 West Olive Avenue, Glendale. The free event will feature swimming, two Moon Walks, safety information and rescue demonstrations. The combination of family fun and important information will provide valuable knowledge for all family members. Battle of the Books & Beyond Battle of the Books
If you can read and answer questions about featured books, you could be a winner! Fifth and 6th grade students in Scottsdale elementary schools and home-schoolers are eligible to participate. If you liked Battle of the Books, get ready for the ultimate reading challenge! Seventh and 8th grade students in Scottsdale middle schools will form teams of three students to compete and test their memories about featured books. Teams form each year in the Fall. Fiesta Glendale!
Sept. 15 & 16 at Murphy Park in downtown Glendale. The fiesta will have several activities for families such as traditional hands-on arts and crafts, a “loteria” game, entertainment and small rides. Visitors will have a selection of Hispanic foods offered by local restaurants, catering companies and snack food vendors. Admission to the event is free with small charges for some activities.

Mighty Mud Mania
The City of Scottdale draws attendees nation-wide for this event every July. You have to see the photos to believe it. More ways to play in the mud than you can imagine. Wear old clothes and shoes and get hosed down by the fire dept. before you go home. ALL AGES--toddlers to teens.

WorldPort 2001
A multi-cultrual experience representing countries around the globe. Thuderbird GSIM student share displays and items that the students have brought with them from all over the world in the Discovery Pavilion on Saturday in an inter-active format. The pavilion is a great way to tour the world in a single afternoon. Rides and crafts for kids. Entertainment, storytelling, matial arts, ethnic foods. This is a fantastic event for teaching social studies!!! All Ages. Parking and admission are free.
