Airlines I have flown
21 December, 2000

I’ve been traveling for many years and have flown on many different airlines. I have loved some, liked some, and disliked some. This page lists, best to worst, the airlines I’ve traveled on and what I thought about them.

LOT   I have flown this airline (the Polish national carrier) four times (Warsaw - London/Heathrow and Zurich - Warsaw) and can say that they are, by far, the best. The only thing bad I can say about them is that you have to leave the airplane when you arrive at your destination. Highly recommended!

Swissair Inter-European Flights – Swissair’s flights within Europe are very good. The seats are fantastic and they offer you newspapers in many different languages (Warsaw – Zurich, Zurich – Malaga and Malaga – Zurich). The food is the quite good also. Highly Recommended!

Virgin Atlantic Excellent transatlantic service (Newark - London/Gatwick). Comfortable and they treat you like a king. Highly recommended!

British Air Very satisfying (London/Heathrow - Newark). Food was decent. Recommended!

American Airlines The best of the USA operators, but nowhere near the quality of the above mentioned European operators. Recommended for domestic service. I've flown too many of their routes to list.

Southwest Airlines Inexpensive and pleasant "no frills" USA domestic airline. Usually on time and recommended. I've flown too many of their routes to list.

Swiss Air Transatlantic Flights Not good transatlantic service with rude flight attendants (Newark - Zurich), but better than all of the USA carriers that I've flown for transatlantic flights. The ground crew in Newark is horrible and Zurich is not good either.

Delta Airlines Not recommended for transatlantic flights (Philadelphia - Brussels). Would barely score higher if the video players worked.

Balkan Air Very cramped and a bit rickety (London/Gatwick - Varna, Bulgaria). However, they served some of the best airline food I’ve ever had!

Sabena Airlines Very cramped and not pleasant (Brussels - Warsaw).

Western Pacific Airlines Pleasant "no frills" airline. The were based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Now defunct as they were bought out by Frontier Air (which I have never flown).

Eastwind Airlines Quite good, but prone to make last minute changes hence making life difficult for passengers (Philadelphia - Miami). Now defunct. That doesn’t surprise me.

Continental Avoid this airline for transatlantic flights and whenever else possible (Rome - Newark).

Alitalia YUCK! I have nothing good to say about the flight I was on (Athens - Rome).
