The new Floor Care Technician course covers care and maintenance of hard surface floor coverings including, but not limited to, stone, concrete, resilient ceramic, laminate, polymeric poured floors, and wood (both hard and soft), as well as specialty surfaces such as steel and aluminum. In addition, the course covers slip/fall issues basic care procedures such as scrubbing and coating, and use of tools and equipment for a variety of hard surface floor coverings. The Floor Care Technician course we are currently offering is an introductory course, however, we expect it will lead to other more advanced hard surface courses," says Claudia Lezell, IICRC technical advisory chair, Hard Surface Committee. " in today's market, it's important for service professionals to be able to maintain multiple types of floor coverings because many consumers are using both carpet and hard surface in their homes." IICRC Board Members expect Floor Care Technician training schools to begin applying for approval of manuals and instructors soon. According to Lezell, the course offers service professionals the resources expand both their customer base and their business opportunities. Established in 1972, the IICRC serves as an independent, non-profit
certification body. It sets and promotes high standards and ethics, and
advances communication and technical proficiency within the inspection,
cleaning and restoration service industries. The organization approves
instructors and schools through which service professionals can receive
training and certification. For more information about the IICRC, please
