*** Fairchild International (FRCD:OTC:BB) has joined DeBeers, BHP Minerals, Kennecott Copper in what could turn into multi-billion dollar diamond bonanza.***

Fairchild International is a publicly-traded diamond and precious metals exploration and development enterprise with its current major focus on natural resource opportunities in Canada.

The current areas of interest are in the northern district of the mineral-rich Province of Manitoba where mining giants DeBeers, BHP Minerals and Kennecott Copper are active in the search for diamonds. This area is currently considered to be one of the hottest diamond exploration prospects in the world.

The other location is in the Northwest Territories in the Lac de Gras district where DeBeers and BHP are also active. The Northwest Territories is also where Canada's first commercial diamond mine, Ekati, was discovered. The Ekati mine is expected to produce some $14.3 billion of commercial diamonds over a 25 year period.

In Manitoba, Fairchild holds mineral rights on some 280,000 acres of land while in the Northwest Territories it is actively exploring and staking in the Lac de Gras area. At this time, the company is maintaining a confidentiality position as to the exact location in the NWT area for competitive reasons.

April 19 2001 9:30AM ET --- Fairchild Signs Contract for Rights to One of Hottest Diamond Exploration Areas in Canada - PRNewswire -

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Apr 19, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Fairchild International (OTC:FRCD) announced today it has signed a contract with the Hunter Exploration Group to acquire some 280,000 acres of mineral rights in a northern section of Canada called the Superior Craton.

Major mining companies are active in the vicinity including DeBeers Exploration, BHP Diamonds, Kennecott and WMC International. The area is in the northern province of Manitoba and is considered to be one of the hottest diamond exploration plays in the world. Canada itself is being hailed by many experts in the diamond mining industry as having the potential to be one of the major diamond producers in the world.

Fairchild acquired the property under Special Exploration Permit 2001 for a payment schedule of $30,000, plus a work commitment of $500,000. Hunter Exploration is also to receive a two percent Net Smelter Royalty and a two percent Gross Overriding Royalty on diamond production. They will act as geological advisors to Fairchild.

- 53 Exploration Permits Taken Out Since November 1999

Industry, Trade and Mines Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk has announced that an unprecedented level of diamond exploration is taking place in Northern Manitoba--the most extensive staking in the province since the late 1950s. In 2000, northeastern Manitoba became the site of a rush to acquire prospective ground for diamond exploration. This came on the heels of encouraging results obtained by the Manitoba Geological Survey from multimedia geochemical surveys in the northern Superior Province. The five-year sampling program, known as Operation Superior, began in 1996. Results released from the 1999 sampling campaign delineated a G10 garnet dispersion train (in association with diamond inclusion chromite grains) suggesting a source region northeast of southern Knee Lake. These results caught the attention of the heavy-hitters in the diamond industry. Over 50 permits covering more than 20 000 sq. km. have been acquired in the northern Superior for diamond exploration. This represents over $2 million in work commitments for the first year alone. Exploration activity is expected to heat up in 2001 when companies conduct airborne geophysical surveys and follow-up with ground geophysics.

"We are witnessing the beginning of a new mining industry in Canada" were the words used by Aber Resources Canada president Grenville Thomas to describe the development of diamond mines within the NWT. Gem bearing kimberlite pipes are so rare that only 15 major diamond mines are in production worldwide.

In Manitoba, there are other reasons to be optimistic about future exploration activity. Following significant diamond discoveries in the Northwest Territories and encouraging results from multimedia geochemical surveys conducted by the Manitoba Geological Survey, major ground acquisitions were made in the Fox River-Knee Lake-Oxford Lake area for diamonds as well as base and precious metals.

Large parts of Manitoba are covered by Archaean aged rocks of the Superior Craton, said Joe Joyce, regional exploration manager, Americas and Europe, of De Beers Canada Exploration Inc. This terrain is considered prospective for diamondiferous kimberlite intrusions. Mihychuk welcomed the interest displayed by diamond explorers in the province. The presence of significant diamond potential in Manitoba underscores the tremendous undiscovered mineral wealth in the province. Manitoba is internationally recognized for its excellent mineral potential and positive minerals policies.

Byron Cox, Pres.
