What's New?

bleu azul

February 23, 2001
It's been a very long time since our last update, but a lot's happened since then. Over the summer, the band fell into a period of stagnation caused mainly by conflicting interests which eventually led to us disband.

We have a new drummer! Ellen Lindner will beat the skins for Bleu Azul. We've already practiced with her a couple of times, and she seems like she fits perfectly with us.

It's the end of an era. Last night we played our final show with Ethan.

We have some good news and some bad news. The good news is we've finally gotten around to booking another show. We'll be playing at the Orange Bear on Wednesday July 5 at 10pm. The bad news is it will be the only show all four of us will ever play. Ethan has announced he will be going to law school in the fall and will be moving away from New York really soon. We're going to miss having him around. We still want to continue as a band, though, so we will need to find a new drummer. If you play, or know anyone who does, please let us know!

We have yet another member of Bleu Azul! Yaron Koren has joined us on bass and keyboards. While we've yet to have a proper rehearsal with all four members, things so far seem promising. Bleu Azul is moving into a new phase of bandhood now that we're finally complete and decided to revamp our entire songwriting process. We're a brand new band, baby -- but we're still quite nice.

Our first two shows ever have been burned into infamy. In true rock and roll fashion, our first show was the most disorganized, messiest affair a band could ever have. We didn't have a drum set until 20 minutes before we played, we totally forgot to play certain parts of songs, messed up the lyrics to the parts we remembered, and faced the noisiest small crowd ever. All in all, it was quite fun.

Yesterday kept Bleu Azul quite busy! Peter and Jessica performed in public for the first time in months, performing "Mojave" and "Silver Star" at the Raven's open mic night. Besides that, their first two shows ever were booked yesterday. Bleu Azul will be appearing at the Sidewalk Cafe on March 12 and at the Acme Underground on either March 14 or 15.

We would like to welcome our newest member to Bleu Azul! Ethan Kirschner has joined us on drums. After talking to and emailing each other for almost two months, the three of us finally got together last night and played for the first time. Okay, we sounded a bit rough, but it was still great fun.

Our little flurry of activity ended last night with our final recording session for the moment. We've added "Dive Bar," "Samba Song," and "Silver Star" to our ever expanding tape. We're going to take some time off now to work on some more administrative aspects of the band, but we should be completely back (and maybe bigger!) in a few weeks. See you then!

And so the recording continues. Last Thursday, we did some more home recording. "Heartbreaker," "I Was A Teenage Teen Idol," and "Swansong" were all recorded. Last night resulted in a mini session in which "Bubbles" was recorded again. At the risk of sounding conceited, the whole tape so far sounds really cool! We should have the tape circulating among certain New York venues in the coming weeks and, hopefully, get to see you very soon ... unless you live far away, of course. But you can always visit. New York's nice this time of year. Just tell them Bleu Azul sent you.

Thanks to the generosity of family members during the holiday season, my 4-track is finally in complete working order. Last night we had a very long, but fun, home recording session. "Forty Five Fever," "Virginia Glare," "Cavegirl," "Motorcycle Boy," and "Charade Parade" are all recorded for posterity and immortality. More songs to come soon...

It's been a while since our last update. We're very sorry about that. The reason for it is that Bleu Azul has been quite stagnant in the past month. We've been searching for other musicians and I guess it's difficult to work with more than two people. There's more schedules to coincide with and the timing isn't helping any. The turn of the century is proving to be a hindrance seeing as that everyone is going home or taking finals and what not. We're still trying to crank out the songs and we're perfecting our old ones. And hopefully by the beginning of next year, Herb will help us finish our demo and we'll be on our way to playing in a city near you. Take care everyone. We'll see you in the 21st baby.

Our first recording session is now history. Last night we were at Herb's apartment for a few hours working on and recording two songs: "Bubbles" and "Swansong." We still have work left to do on both of these songs, but due to prior engagements, we'll be unable to do anything else until after the holiday. But both of the songs sound really cool so far!

Bleu Azul will be going into the studio! Kind of. We met with this guy Herb, who seems really knowledgable about recording and seems to have a good ear. He's willing to record us, so we're meeting with him on Tuesday to record a few songs. We'll keep you posted as to how things go.
