The Tactician Deck - Part 2
by Jesse Butler

Welcome back.  Now that we have our army chosen for the battlefield, now is the time to support them with the gold they so rightfully deserve.  First you must under stand that Lion are the perhaps poorest clan in the entire world of Rokugan, so our gold comes in piles of 3 and unlikely 4.  I will list a few of the most common of holdings chosen by Lion decks in the past.

-Copper Mine, holdings, C, Imperial
Cost: 2
Bow to produce 2 Gold. If Copper Mine is controlled by a member of Lion House, Mine produces 3 Gold when bowed.

-Jade Works, holdings, C, Imperial
Cost: 3
Bow to produce 3 Gold. Bow to produce 5 Gold if paying for a Jade card.

-Small Farm, holdings, C, Imperial
Cost: 0
Bow to produce 1 Gold.

-Large Farm, holdings, C, Hidden Emperor 5
Cost: 1
Bow to produce 2 gold. Cards that affect or are affected by Small Farms affect and are affected by Large Farms as well.

-Gambling House, holdings, C, Shadowlands
Cost: 3
When the Gambling House is brought into play, draw and discard a Fate Card. The
focus value of the Fate Card you drew will be the gold production of the
Gambling House for the remainder of the game.

-Merchant Caravan, holdings, C, Forbidden Knowledge
Cost: 0
Bow and discard a Fate card from your hand. Merchant Caravan produces gold equal to the focus value of the card discarded. You must discard for each usage of the Caravan. You may bow the Caravan without discarding to produce zero gold.
COMMENT:This is probably the best holding you will get in a tactician deck.
This holding is the greatest.  Remember, Lion Tactician decks are to have a very
high Focus on their cards...

-Akodo Tactical School, holdings, R, Time of the Void
Cost: 3
Unique
May only be put into play by a Lion Clan Player.
Battle: Bow to straighten a Lion Samurai in this battle.

-Yoritomo Sensei, sensei, U, Ambition's Debt
0PS 0G 0FH
All clans*Sensei
Gold-producing Holdings cost 1 less Gold, to a minimum of 1, for you. Your Stronghold produces 1 less Gold when bowing to pay for a Personality.
COMMENT:Thanks to this sensei we can bring in the next few holding that will help greatly.  Remember, the SH will most unlikely bow for gold after turn three anyway.

-The Hiruma Dojo, holdings, C, Hidden Emperor 1
Cost: 4
Bow to produce 3 gold. Reaction: Bow to reduce the gold cost of a samurai by 4 as it is being brought into play.  "You call that fighting? Pah! To hide behind steel is not courage. First learn to fight with only your hands and your wits, and then men will call you brave." - Hiruma Osuno

-Kabuki Theater Troupe, holdings, U, Honor Bound
Cost: 4
Bow the Kabuki Theater Troupe to produce 2 Gold
Limited: Bow the Kabuki Theatre Troupe. Gain 1 Honor.

Now that I have labeled the most used holdings for our clan.  The Sensei I have chosen to play with is the one and only Yoritomo Sensei.  You can always sub it out for Hantei or the sort if you feel that you don't need its help.  To start with the holding, we will place 3 Small Farms (because free gold is always a good thing).  Three Jade Works,  (remember if you ever play with Jade cards this one bows for 5 gold, though I have rarely played with any Jade card save Jade Bow, but that was a long time ago). We will now throw in 3 Merchant Caravans. They have the bad cut due to the fact the man that made this card wanted it taken out of print and it was denied.  So many cards these days are harsh on this caravan, but the risk is worth it to dump cards for gold.  Even if it to get your Ring of Void into play.  Three Copper Mines go in without question.  It is just the way things are.  Now for the 4 gold cost holdings.  I love the Theatre Troup, but the Lion army is worth more than honor runners.  We will toss in two Dojos.  That leaves us with 14 holdings, the magic number here is 15 so we will just toss in the charter for the effect.  I don't really like its bad ability to get destroyed if you lose a province in battle, but we may need to get a boost as much as we can.  That is 15, so we can now move on to regions and events. I will now list a few most used regions and events in the Lion mix so pay attention and take a few notes.  You can put in what you feel but I will just give you a run down of what we should use.

-Crossroads, regions, C, Forbidden Knowledge
Heavily Traveled Region
All gold producing holding coming from this province have their gold cost reduced by three.

-Golden Sun Plain, regions, R, Dark Journey Home
Unique
Reaction: Once per turn, increase the Gold production of one of your
Gold-producing Holdings by 2 as it bows to produce Gold.
"Few places in the Empire still shine with the light of hope."

-The Doji Plains, regions, U, Forbidden Knowledge
Rich Region
Select one of your Holdings when this Region enters play. That holding produces twice as much gold as it normally would while this card is in play. If you have no holdings in play, this card enters play without effect. If this Region is destroyed, the targeted holding is also destroyed.

I have always tried to get as little as possible to regions due to the fact that they are capable of being destroyed.  So the one I feel will help as much as possible is the Golden Sun Plain.  It has been in many of my decks and has never been poped.  Luck I guess!!  It also gives that added boost in gold for Ken'o and the like off one holding.  It is not imposible to use three CrossRoads, for they work just as well.

-Evil Feeds Upon Itself, events, U, Imperial
The Player or Players with the lowest Family Honor lose their rightmost Province (it is destroyed).
COMMENT:This may back fire a few times but not likely if you stay ahead in honor.

-Imperial Gift, events, R, Imperial
Gain 2 Honor. Select any one Item Card from your Fate Deck, reveal it to the other player(s), and add it to your hand. Reshuffle your Fate Deck afterwards.

-Iris Festival, events, R, Imperial
All Shadowlands cards in play are destroyed.

-Peasant Revolt, events, U, Imperial
All Personalities and Followers with 3F or greater are bowed and may not straighten until the beginning of this player's next turn.

-Desperate Measures, events, R, Shadowlands
Destroy the Province this card came from and any one other Province in play, which you select. Lose 5 Honor.

-Doom of the Lion, events, U, Shadowlands
All Lion Personalities in play gain a Doom token. A Lion with this Doom token cannot be assigned to attack inless that player bows another Personality he or she controls.
COMMENT:Just kidding, small joke Heh!!

-Corruption of the Harmonies, events, U, Anvil of Despair
All Shugenja in play are bowed.
COMMENT:This will nail Phoenix players, and you don't have any shugenja so this is
one to look at...

-The Return of Fu Leng, events, R, Anvil of Despair
All players have their rightmost Province destroyed. Each player may elect to renounce their ability to win through an Honor Victory to prevent their Province from being destroyed, unless they are unable to win through an Honor Victory (such as Scorpion, Naga, and Junzo's Army).

-Lions Attack the Crane, E, R, Scorpion Clan Coup Scroll 1
Choose any player (including yourself). The targeted player begins an Attack Phase against another player of his choice. Each of the target player's unbowed Personalities that does not assign to attack is dishonored and causes a one point Honor loss. After the final battle resolution, your turn continues normally.

-Kisada's Funeral, events, U, Hidden Emperor 2
Until the end of the game, players may not achieve an Honor Victory unless they have destroyed a Province in battle, or have at least one Elemental Ring in play.

-Kolat Duplicate, events, R, Honor Bound
Target a Personality in play. All cards in the Personality's unit are shuffled back into their owner's decks. All versions of that Personality have their Gold cost reduced to 0 for the rest of the game. Honor is not gained when these Personalities enter play.

That is that on the events.  Since we have 18 persons, 15 holdings and one region.  Six events will be chosen for this deck.  Imperial gift is a good wayto get the sword or items in the deck. Inheritance is yet FREE GOLD.  Evil
Feeds is yet a risk but the reward is a province.  Iris festival is a good precaution against those Shadowlands cards as well. We must add The Enemy of My Enemy.  Now the last one I will let you pick, my suggestion is Kolat Duplicate or Return of Fu Leng, so use whatever works in your area.  Well my friends, we have built a
pretty solid Dynasty.  Now we will move on to the next section which will be the Fate Deck.
