The Insurgence
A foreign force draws me to a solid and seemingly eminent building. I pass through the long driveway, which seems more like a never-ending abyss. My negative thoughts purge my mind, as I feel that I will not be able to contribute to this institution in any way. However, my thoughts shift as I enter the firm building. The school is not as I had pictured. Bulletin boards and notices seemed to be ubiquitous, almost unnatural as if the school were maintaining a façade. I immediately start to hear high-pitched voices and instead of the mundane sports and videogames talk, I hear gossip and talk about unimportant concerns, such as makeup and dresses. I feel a bit relieved since the school has a fairly relaxed atmosphere and I do not feel intimidated by the garrulousness. Suddenly, a bell rings and the students quickly run to class, ignoring my presence.
As I walk past the classrooms, I am awestricken by the discipline and the attentiveness of the students. This is completely contrary to the gossipy chatter that was taking place outside the classrooms. I assume that all females act this way. Since I had not had any experience at any female-dominant school, I make this assumption. A feeling of philanthropy overcomes me and I feel obliged to financially help this excellent school. Without much difficulty, I find the principal’s office and notice the secretary. I state that I want to meet the principal of the school. With alacrity she asks me to stay seated. She is well behaved and has proper manners. I am further impressed by the excellence of this school. In addition, she orders only the best Madeira wine, imported from South Africa. At first, this seems unusual but I eventually succumb to my desire for wine. In what seems like hours the principal, Mrs. Harbinger, finally gestures for me to enter her office. Unlike the secretary, she has a solemn expression on her face, almost as if I had interrupted her in the middle of an arduous task. She gestures for me to close the door and I do. We then start to talk and I propose the idea to help finance the school. I expect approval of this plan from her but I am simply regarded with an air of indifference. The secretary immediately interrupts us and she whispers to the principal. The principal nervously looks at me and apathetically asks me to visit a classroom. I, politely acquiesce.
Another bell rings, and I find out that the erudite principal is an English teacher. I attend her class and I am surprised since the class does not greet me in any way. The students all have a solemn expression on their face, which is in contrast to the nervousness present on the principal’s face. The class is not affected by my presence, and the students await the principal’s orders. The principal glances as me for a second and then asks one of the students to spell and write the definition of the word, "leech," on the blackboard. The student writes, "leech: a person who clings onto others for gain." Just then something odd occurs. The same student holds a knife to the principal’s neck and says, "A leech is also a parasite that enjoys the presence of blood." The principal nervously agrees and I, noticing this act of irreverence seize the knife from her and throw it out of the window. The principal then makes a quick dash towards the door, and feeling confused, I follow. She enters her car and gestures for me to get in. She says that this whole school is under the subjugation of the students and that there had been a violent revolt months ago against the faculty. Several deaths had occurred and the corpses had been buried at some unknown location. The students had then assumed power and kept the teachers prisoners. The motive behind this act of insurgence is that the students had wanted complete financial independence to be economically self-sufficient and to be separated from the rest of the world in seclusion. This was utterly shocking to me and I am able to infer that the students are utilizing Mrs. Harbinger as a puppet to lure me into helping them. After this idea flashes into my mind, I realize that the principal was trying to hint to me that the students were "leeches". This act is merely just a façade and the students are incognito, pretending to be under the control of the teachers. The innocence of the principal and the faculty makes me feel a sense of responsibility and I feel that I should help the teachers in their plight.
We are unable to leave the school since the lives of the others would be risked. Therefore we deem it necessary to devise a plan to save everyone and ourselves. I propose to call the police but Mrs. Harbinger says that the phone lines had been cut to prevent the possibility of escape. Since time is of the essence, I state that it is necessary to trick the students into believing that I am caught, and that the principal is still on their side, under their control. By doing this, it would save unnecessary violence since the students would find us soon and probably eliminate the both of us. Since I have my mobile phone, I call the police and quickly explain the quagmire that the school is currently in. We hear footsteps and I pretend to be dead and lie on the ground. The students menacingly accost the principal. The principal states that she had caught me before I had escaped. She prevaricates that she had run out of the classroom in order to deter me from escaping. The students gullibly accept her story, and decide to leave my corpse to rot, thinking that I had died. A few minutes later, the police surround the building and order the students to exit the building. Knowing that they are trapped, the students have no other choice but to follow the police’s orders since their plan had been exposed. The teachers thank me and I feel a sense of self-satisfaction because I had aided the innocent faculty members. A week later, my arm starts to feel a little numb. I take a look at it and see a leech voraciously sucking the life out of me. I murmur to myself, "Ah Parasites, Ah Mankind."
