• Subject »  Remastered Evangelion DVD...    • Posted »  Thursday, December 20, 2001    • By »  webmaster

¤ Excerpt from Anime on DVD: "Neon Genesis Evangelion Vol. #1 was originally authored by AIX with ADV using freeze frames to remove jitter and overlays to replace key Japanese text sequences. After fan outrage and several months later, Neon Genesis Evangelion Vol. #2 - 8 began to be released by POP/Cinram without the jitter removal process or with overlays. ADV is now remastering the first volume without the jitter removal and without overlays and it's being authored by MOFC, which is an authoring studio based nearby the ADV offices. My comments were comparing the quality of Eva 1 remaster against Eva 1 AIX version as well as Eva 2-8 POP versions based on the opening sequences. Basically, my initial impressions are that the Eva 1 remaster definitely looks better than the Eva 1 AIX version but still has some minor issues that are likely source related and that based on the opening sequences, I think that the Eva 1 remaster looks better than the POP released Vol 2-8 releases."

• Subject »  Dragon Ball...Web's Most Wanted...    • Posted »  Wednesday, December 19, 2001    • By »  Anime Man

¤ Dragon Ball is the Web's Most Wanted 2001. This is probably no surprise to anyone who is a fan of this great Japanimation (Japanese Anime) show. Dragon Ball started out as a manga (comic strip), and as is became popular, it eventually made it to videos and television. It finally made it to our TV in the 1990's. Since then is has become very popular and still growing in popularity. Dragon Ball hit #1 on the Lycos 50 in January and had held it out for 25 out of 52 weeks in the year! The only things to stand in it's way were holidays, celebrity deaths, and the tragedy of September 11. Well now onto the site stuff. First off I have been collecting images and now I have over 250 Evangelion individual character images, and I am still looking for the other Anime's. All I need to do is to get the webmasters help with this and then I can put them up. That's all I have to say for now. You might see another one of my updates later on to keep you updated about the images situation.

¤ Viz has sent out a press release announcing their upcoming graphic novel release of No. 5, the latest Manga from Taiyo Matsumoto, the creator of Black and White (also available from Viz).

B&W, 152-pages, $15.95 U.S. ($25.95 Canada).

Excertps from press release:

In a world that has become 70% harsh desert, the Rainbow Council of The International Peace Keeping Force, a race of super-powered global security guardians that work for Supreme Headquarters, have a growing crisis on their hands. Guardian No. 5, one of their own, and known within the council as their top warrior and marksman, has left his post with a female and gone rogue. It’s up to the other guardians, in the tradition of their ancient code of honor, to track him down. But No. 5, with his mysterious companion Matroshka, refuses to go down without a fight.

With his bold compositions, arresting and surreal art style, and a unique combination of European comics and Japanese pace and storytelling, creator Taiyo Matsumoto is one of Japan's most recognizable and stylish manga artists. No. 5 is Masumoto’s latest work and was released in Japan in December 2001.
