STAMPS FOR 2001

*Issue : 17 May 2001*This issue commemorates Australia’s history in the Antarctic over the last century with a sheet of twenty stamps (five each x 5c, 10c, 25c and 45c). In a first for Australian stamps, the sheet of twenty stamps will be printed with descriptive text on the back of each stamp. The issue also includes first day covers, a stamp pack and a set of four maximum cards (5c South Magnetic Pole, 10c First flight, 25c Transport, 45c Women). Federal Parliament 1901-2001*Issue : 3 May 2001* The third and final issue in Australia Post’s federation series, commemorates the centenary of the first Federal Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Issue : 24 Apr 2001 These five colourful, highly versatile designs will initially be released with title tabs. There are five stamps in the issue, three x 45c for domestic use and two for international use (one x $1.00; one x $1.50). The issue is made up of individual sheets (no decorative selvedge) for each design, a first day cover, a stamp pack, postcards, a set of maximum cards and a pack of five sheets (one sheetlet each design) with title tabs and decorative selvedge. Three postcards (featuring the designs for Bayulu Banner, Let's Party and Smile) will also be produced. ***Issue : 12 Apr 2001***This year’s stamps feature a contemporary photograph of the Queen taken in Glasgow, Scotland in 1999. Rock Australia***Issue : 20 Mar 2001*** From hard rock to pure pop, the ten hit songs in Rock Australia highlight the diversity of the Australian contemporary music scene.

Previous Australian Legends Awards: 1997 - cricketing immortal Sir Donald Bradman AC. 1998 - six of the country's greatest Olympians: Shirley Strickland, Murray Rose, Dawn Fraser, Herb Elliot, Betty Cuthbert and Marjorie Jackson. 1999 - Arthur Boyd, one of Australia's greatest living artists, who died later that year. 2000 - the award commemorated the Anzacs who fought at Gallipoli in 1915. They were represented by the last three surviving Australian Anzacs, Roy Longmore, Walter Parker (since deceased)and Alec Campbell.
