Every five thousand years, a door opens between the dimensions. In one dimension lies the universe and all of its multitude of   varied life forms. In another exists an element made not of earth, air, fire or water, but of anti-energy, anti-life. This "thing," this darkness, waits patiently at the threshold of the universe  for an opportunity to extinguish all life and all light. The Fifth Element is an action packed movie where Milla Jovovich teams up with Bruce Willis     ("Last Man Standing") to save the world from an evil presence that enters the galaxy every 5,000 years. Based in the future, Milla  plays a perfect, supreme  being who meets up with Willis, a retired military officer who now drives a cab, as they must somehow locate four ancient stones representing the four basic elements of earth, air, fire, and water. They must overcome many obstacles including Milla's ancient language and customs, as well as the evil Zorg (Gary Oldman, ( "Basquiat" ) and his  mercenaries, to locate the stones and position them around the Fifth Element which is the only hope to save life from the evil  presence aimed directly at earth.  However, without Willis' love for Milla she can never complete her role as the Fifth Element and all is lost. Every five thousand years, the universe needs a hero, and in New York City of the 23rd Century, a good hero is hard to find.

Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) is a normally silent but spastic museum curator at the National
Gallery, where he spends his time snoozing on a chair, apparently guarding the paintings. He's evidently not very good at his job because most members of the gallery's board want to get rid of him (he's described as "the worst employee in the gallery's history").  However, he has the support of the board's chairman (Sir John Mills), who thinks he's a "splendid young man", although why he feels this way remains a mystery. To be rid of him, at least for a while, the exasperated board members decide to send him off to Los Angeles where a small art gallery has requested a scholar "of great weight and substance" to speak at the unveiling of their latest acquisition, Whistler's Mother, described as America's greatest painting and just acquired from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris thanks to the donation of $50 million by a right-wing army general (Burt Reynolds). From the moment he boards his transatlantic flight, Bean predictably brings chaos and destruction in his wake. In LA – where he's been invited to stay with the gallery's director, David Langley (Peter MacNicol) and his wife Alison (Pamela Reed), he proves to be a walking disaster area and it isn't hard to guess that even the valuable painting isn't safe when Dr. Bean (as the Americans call him) is in the vicinity.
