Chocobo Breeding!

Hiall! This page will tell you the way to go about breeding chocobos. This is a very fun, but painsteaking process. But the rewards outweigh the sacrefice. You get a Knights of the Round Materia (The STRONGEST summon materia in the game), a HP<-->MP materia (Pointless I think), a Quadra Magic materia (Insanely Powerful), and more! Plus, you get a gold chocobo that you can race in the S class at the Gold Saucer to win some great prizes. And it's just cool to know that you have bred and bred chocobos to finally get the King (or Queen) of all chocobos! Ok...now I'll tell you what to do.

First, I'll tell you the different kinds of Chocobos. There are 5 kinds. Green, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Gold. Each has it's own respective properties.

Yellow: Yellow chocobos are the most basic chocobos of them all. They can be found on any chocobo tracks. They can only go places that you can go on foot. The only benefits are that they are a little faster than Humans. And it's always fun ot ride chocobos!

Green:The green chocobo is pretty neat. It can cross any mounrain in the game. The only uses it has are to get to the cave south of Wutai and to get to the Frog forest, which is pretty tough. I like green chocobos.

Blue:The blue chocobo is also pretty neat. It walks on SHALLOW water. It can't cross oceans. It can walk across shallow parts in rivers, and the shallow part of the water before you get to the ocean. With the blue chocobo, you can get to the cave east of Mideel. It's pretty useful.

Black: I love this chocobo. I like dark colours. The black chocobo can cross any shallow water AND cross any mountain in the game. It can be use to get to the cave near Nibleheim. You have to cross the pointy mountains that are close to it.

GOLD!: Golden chocobos RULE! They can go absolutely ANYWHERE on thw world map. thay can cross rivers, mountains AND oceans! They can be used to get the most powerful materia in the game, Knights of the Round. This summon materia is simply AWESOME! You HAVE to get a Gold chocobo or your journey just seems somehow...incomplete.

Ok....first, you must AT LEAST have gotten the Highwind to breed chocobos, and I recommend that you wait until the third disc to start anyway since this takes a lot of time and money. I'd say about 5 hours. Anyway, the very first thing you should do is go to the chocobo farm and buy 6 stables at 10,000 gil a piece. It seems steep, but it's well worth it. You can complete the process with 4, but it just gets to be a pain in the butt.

Second....you must have a chocobo lure materia EQUIPPED to continue. I use 2, just because it makes it easier. If you have a mastered one, it saves you HOURS of boring, pain-in-the-butt work. So, you have to catch some chocobos now. But not just any chhocobos, they have yo be certain kinds. You need 2 "Good Chocobos" and 2 "Great Chocobos". Now, to get these, you have to go to certain places. First, we'll start with the 2 "Good Chocobos." You need to go to the chocobo tracks that are near the Gold Saucer. Make sure the chocobo lure materia is equipped. Walk around on the tracks until you get into a battle WITH A CHOCOBO. Now, you can tell if the chocobo is the kind you want by which monsters it appears with.

Combo 1: Chocobo is BEHIND two "Spencers".
Combo 2: Chocobo is IN FRONT OF two "Flapbeats".

Those are the two combonations that will assure that you get a "Good Chocobo". "Spencers" and "Flapbeats" are the names of the enemies. So, once you get into a battle with one of these combonations, you must kill all the enemies, BUT DO NOT ATTACK THE CHOCOBO. If you need to buy yourself some time before the chocobo runs away (which you won't if you waited like I said), just buy some greens from Choco Billy, and use them as an item in battle on the chocobo. That will keep them busy and you can kill the monsters. After the battle, you'll appear on the world map on the chocobo. Press the X button to get off and then choose "Send chocobo back to the stables." Even though it looks like they run into the ocean and drown, they don't. Do this until you have gotten four chocobos. Now return ot the chocobo farm. Talk to Choco Billy and select "Moving Chocobos." A screen will appear with a chocobo in it. Press O and select "Move this chocobo to stable." Name it and then talk to Billy again and choose the same thing. Then do the same thing until you get a chocobo of the opposite sex of the first one. Like if you got a female, this one has to be a male. If there are none of the opposite sex, go catch some more until you get one that is. But before you do, go to the "Moving CHocobos" command and let all of the chocobos in the fenced in area go, since you can only hold four in it. This will assure that you get four new chocobos.

Next....you have to catch 2 "Great Chocobos". Just use the same steps described above EXCEPT, you have to go to the tracks near Mideel, AND there are different combos...

Combo 1: Chocobo must be BESIDE a "Spiral".
Combo 2: Chocobo must be BEHIND two "Spirals".

You must get a male and female of each also as above.

Fourth.....You must obtain a "Carob Nut". To do this, fly to the Chocobo Sage's house (In the middle of the northern continent) and fight in that grass around his house. You'll fight an enemy called a "Vlakorados", it looks like a red dragon. Make sure you have the "Steal" materia equipped before doing this. Just steal from him until you get the "Carob Nut", then run away. Do this three times. Now go to the Chocobo Farm and SAVE YOUR GAME! Now go in and talk to Chocobo Billy and select "Mating Chocobos". Pick a male "Good Chocobo" and a female "Great Chocobo" and and pick the "Carob Nut". If you get a green or blue chocobo, SAVE YOUR GAME! Then do the same with the other two chocobos. BUT you must get the opposite of the first one...if you got a green male, you have to get a blue female. Get it? Anyway, just keep reseting it if you don't get the kind you need. When you get it....SAVE YOUR GAME!

Fifth.....Release all of the yellow chocobos, you don't need them anymore. Now you have to waste a little time. Go to the Chocobo Sage's house and buy 80 Sylkis greens. Feed each chocobo 40 of them and then go to the gold Saucer and race them until they're at A or S level. Feed them more greens if they need it. Then, you need to catch a "Wonderful Chocobo". They are located at the tracks on the northern continent, just south of Icicle Town. It doesn't matter which sex it is. Use the same steps as above, but....

Combo 1: Chocobo must be BESIDE a "Jumping", with a space between them.
Combo 1: Chocobo must be BESIDE two "Jumpings".

Ok.....now you have to mate your blue and green chocobos. SAVE YOUR GAME before you do, and use the Carob Nut. You should get a Black Chocobo of the opposite sex as the Wonderful chocobo you caught. If not...reset and try again. When you get it...SAVE YOUR GAME! Now go to the Gold Saucer, after feeding them each about 70 greens, and race them to "S" class. Now, go to an island up in the north-eastern part of the map. It is marked on the map. There's a forest there and the only enemies are Goblins. Fight them and steal the "Zieo Nut" from them. Now breed your Black and Wonderful chocobos, usung the "Zeio Nut", and you should get a "Gold Chocobo!!" Now, ride the gold chocobo to the very northeastern part of the map. There's an island there, not marked on the map. Go in the cave and you get Knights of the Round materia! You can use the green, blue and black chocobos to get to the following areas too:

A cave south of Wutai: There is a cave south of Wutai that you can reach with the Green Chocobo.
A cave east of Mideel: There is a cave east of Mideel that can be reached only with the blue chocobo.
A cave near Nibleheim: There is a cave near Nibleheim that can only be reached with the black chocobo.
The Frog Forest: There is a forest near Cosmo Canyon that can only be reached with a green chocobo, or after you beat Ultima Weapon.
