WHITE COLLAR THUGS
|
For the second time in as many contests, the Thugs faced a foe whose sole purpose was to upend their championship hopes. This time the foe came in the guise of the 1L team, 1L's for life, created soley for the purpose of taking out the 2L Juggarnaut Thugs. Unfortunately for the 1L's they were out-smarted, out-played, and out-talented all afternoon in route to a 25-13 Thugs victory. Things did start on a positive note for the youngsters, driving down the field on the opening series against a Thugs defense missing star CB Scott Galante due to illness, and scoring on a nice HB pass to take a 6-0 lead. That's were their own personal highlight reel ended. On the Thugs second play from scrimmage, QB Fineman and WR Freeman showed the youngsters the connection that carried the Thugs to last years semi-finals, hooking up for a 65 yd. TD. Fineman and Freeman connected again for the conversion, giving the Thugs a 7-6 lead. The 1L's were yet undaunted, driving the length of the field, until the Thugs applied the knife to the juggler, as the 1L QB, on the run all afternoon from standout DL's Alex Winsberg and Joel Davis, threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted by Freeman in the end zone. Following the touchback, and 2 running plays, Freeman and Fineman hooked up for their 2nd TD of the day, this one a 40 yarder with Fineman hitting Freeman on an out and Freeman running the last 15 for the score. Giving the Thugs a 13-6 advantage. The Thugs almost put the game away right before the half when Fineman intercepted a 1L pass and after a lateral, the ball waw returned to the 1L 5 yard line. Unfortunately the half had expired. The Thugs opened the second half with the ball, and their minds set on putting the game out of reach. WR Bruce Kammer took that plan into his own hands. Snaring a Fineman pass, then outrunning 3 defenders in route to a 40 yard scoring play. Kammer's first TD as a Thug, and Fineman's third TD pass of the day. The 1L's weren't quite finished. After a nice drive, and some questionable penalties on the Thugs inside their own 10 yard line the 1L QB ran it in to close to 19-13. The Thugs quickly responded though, Fineman finding Freeman again, this time for 60 yards, moving the ball to the 5 yard line. Following a run, Fineman took a bootleg around the right end for the finishing score, 25-13. Fineman was named player of the game for his 5-13, 210 yard, 3 TD (1 rushing TD), 1 INT performance. The Thugs square off with 420 this Saturday at 1:00. |
