The Temperance Hotel was owned by Mr Geo WASHINGTON PHIPPS in Oxford Street. Mr B.R. GARDENER had the Manawatu Co-Operative store in 1906: SWAINSON & BEVAN ran a general merchandise store on the corner of Mako Mako Road and Oxford Street, the building having been built in 1904 but was burnt to the ground in 1909: Sydney HALL had a dental practice and WILLIAMS opened a tearooms in Oxford St in 1910.

LEONARD was a saddler and Levins first fire officer: BARTHOLEMEWs had the first sawmill, situated on Roslyn Road, errected 1888 with James & Richard PROUSE setting up theirs in Cabbridge Street arround 1891.
