Students will have the ability to earn badges for demonstrating an understanding of the Pillars of Good Character (Trustwortiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship).

Since our classroom is a society, rule braking will be treated much as the same as speeding. A "ticket" will be filled out stating the broken rule and the offense. Parents must sign the ticket the night it comes home for the following day's return. Consistent misbehavior within a marking period will remove the students chances of earning a badge for that marking period.

Some rules apply in more than one catagory and are listed more than once.

Remember: choosing the behavior means you choose the consequence that goes with it.

  1. Be Trustworthy

    • Keep your eyes on your own paper.
    • Ask before using something that doesn't belong to you and return it to its owner.
    • Do your own work at YOUR best, not someone else's.
    • If you have been assigned a class job, please be sure that you complete it. The class is expecting your help and depend on you to see things through.

  2. Be Respectful of other people and property

    • Listen when others speak and wait your turn.
    • Raise your hand if you need help or have a comment.
    • Keep your hands to yourself, not on other people's bodies or possessions.
    • When leaving the room as a class, form quiet lines so we don't interrupt other classes.
    • Pencil sharpening should be done in the morning before class and during recess or lunch unless you have a hand held sharpener. If you don't have one, ask to borrow one or a sharp pencil.
    • I'll give you time to use the bathroom, but please don't ask during lessons unless it is an emergency.
    • Be on time for the start of the day. Tardiness (arriving at 8:10am or later) is not acceptable and it is your job to help your parents start the day smoothly by being prepared to leave for school.

  3. Be Responsible

    • Turn in homework and class work on time. If you miss an assignment once you will have a chance to make it up. It is your job to tell me before class starts that you need more time. Place it in the proper basket when complete.
    • Make sure you have your heading on the paper.
    • Make sure papers are cared for and legible.
    • Walk inside the classroom and hallways.
    • Be on time for the start of the day. Tardiness (arriving at 8:10am or later) is not acceptable and it is your job to help your parents start the day smoothly by being prepared to leave for school.
    • Drinks are to be covered and kept in cubbies.
    • Because we have limited space, please carry a backpack that does not have wheels.

  4. Be Caring

    • Respect everyone's differences and be polite.
    • If someone is having trouble with an assignment, offer help during a time where a voice level of 2 or 3 is allowed.
    • Don't put yourself down or others.
    • Report bullying or other inappropriate behavior. It might seem like tattling, but it could make the all the different to the person being teased.

  5. Be Fair

    • Listen when others speak and wait your turn.
    • Raise your hand if you need help or have a comment.

I will try and get your attention with one of these signals:

  • May I have your attention please.

  • Share behaviors (Sit up straight, Have a pleasant voice, Activate your brain, Relax and Eye contact.)

  • Give me five.

  • Stop, look, listen.

Voice Levels are how loud we should be speaking inside the classroom. I will let you know when the voice level should change.

  • Level 0 = Quiet, work at this level especially during tests.

  • Level 1 = Whisper, talk quietly.

  • Level 2 = Buddy Voices: I should only hear you if I am near your desk

  • Level 3 = Presentation: I can hear your across the room.

  • Level 4 = Outdoor playground voices only
