Situations VI




Heero stared down at Duo anxiously< Shouldn't he have woken up by now? >.
 His hair was matted to his head, and his breathing was ragged. Heero 
moved to adjust his bandages, but stopped when Duo groaned in pain.
< Why did this have to happen to Duo? > He gritted his teeth and stared 
out the window. 

"Why?" 

He turned to look back at Duo. He was biting his lip in pain. Heero 
grimaced, < but that would break their cover and get them all in trouble.>
His eyes softened as he saw Duo clutch the bed sheets. On impulse, 
he reached out to grab Duo's hand. To his surprise, he grabbed back.
He let out a shaky breath and knelt beside Duo. He hesitantly reached 
out to lightly brush Duo's lips.< So soft... > 

"Duo..." 

He gasped and quickly pulled his hand back as Duo murmured and turned 
toward him in his sleep. Heero's eyes widened as Duo's cheek softly 
nestled into the palm of his hand. 

"I..." 

He quickly snapped his mouth shut before he said something...something...
He sighed and shook his head. Checking Duo's bandages one more time, 
he shut his eyes and let himself get a little sleep before dawn. 
Just a little...

< It hurts... > 

Duo groaned and rolled over, tossing and turning in his bed. He gave a 
little 'oof' as he connected with something warm. Blinking hazily, he 
opened his eyes to find himself staring not one inch away from Heero's 
face. He let out a shaky breath, mingled with Heero's own, as he felt 
their noses softly rub together. He gulped,"Heero?" 

Heero shifted in his sleep, and Duo stiffened as he felt Heero's arm 
snake across his waist and their bodies line up together, touching.
< I can't move. Even if I wanted to. > Slowly he relaxed and his body 
melted against Heero's own. He stared into Heero's eyes, puzzled. < 
Why am I acting this way? Could it be that I....I...like him!? > 
His mouth hung open in shock< What would Heero think? > He blushed and 
struggled to disentangle himself. < If he saw us like this, he'd 
probably never speak to me again! > He let out an exasperated breath and 
froze as he realized his struggles just made the situation worse. < What
do I do now? > 

"Duo?" 

Duo froze.He slowly turned to face Heero's wide open and confused eyes.
" It's not what you think!" Duo blurted out, wincing at the sound of his 
voice and the pain in his side. He groaned and bit his lip, as the pain 
in his side came back full force. 

"Duo!" 

Heero sat up quickly, ignoring the rush of blood to his head, and 
reached in his backpack for a box of pills, and an ice pack. 

"Heero?" Duo asked hesitantly. 

Heero turned to look at Duo, half afraid of what he was going to say. 
" Yes?" 

Duo swallowed nervously," Well, I...just wanted to ask you if... if,"
 He stared down at the floor and squeezed his eyes shut," if... you 
would go with me!" 

Heero stared at Duo in shock.< Did he just say...what I think he said? > 
His mouth fell open and the ice pack lay discarded on the floor.< Why 
would Duo ever....? > He started as he heard Duo stifle a sob. 

" I'm...I'm sorry Heero...I...I should never..." 

Heero rushed over to Duo's side and gently turned him over to face him. 
His eyes were shinny with tears and he was trying to smile, but failing.
"Duo..." He hesitantly reached up to cradle Duo's head in his hands. 

Duo stared at him in shock.< Does he really...? > He sighed and rested 
his head in Heero's hands, closing his eyes. Heero pulled him in even 
closer, and Duo smiled as he felt arms go around his waist as he lay his 
head on Heero's chest. 

" Heero, does that mean...that you...?" 

Heero closed his eyes as he ran his fingers through Duo's hair."Duo, 
I...I need you." 

Duo sighed,"I need you too."
