My 1997 Travels

1997 was a fun year for travel for me. I visited Miami Beach, Key West (Florida), Chicago, St Louis (many times), Toronto, Colorado Springs, Topeka, and went back to Arizona. I also travelled extensively over Kansas and Missouri.
I loved Florida. I went there over Thanksgiving on a 5 day weekend. I flew into Miami, rented a convertible, and drove down to Key West. I spent 3 days down there and then came up to Miami Beach for the last two days. My hotels, in both places, were right on the beach and had ocean views and balconies. I slept with the balcony doors open so that I could hear the sound of the surf in the mornings. There is so much to do and the scenery is beautiful. I hope to make a yearly visit down there. I highly recommed South Florida as a vacation spot.

Toronto, Colorado Springs and Arizona were trips mainly to visit friends. Those were my 3 favorite trips. It's nice to visit people that you've known for a while and just enjoy eachother's company. I did see Niagara Falls while in Toronto.

Chicago was a lot of fun with a lot to do also. I went over Independence Day weekend (3 day weekend). I like Chicago because you don't need to rent a car there. Public transportation is great and takes you anywhere you need to go. They have a great theater district and I plan on spending a lot more time there. Also, the Museum of Science and Technology is fantastic.

St Louis is a fun place as well. I can take Amtrak from my town to St Louis inexpensively, and it is another town that you don't need to rent a car in. St Louis is a very clean and safe city, once again, with a lot to do. On one of the trips, I saw the U2 Popmart Concert and it rocked the world totally!!!!

Midwesterners love festivals, fairs, events, and thinks like that in the summer. I spent some time travelling around Kansas and Missouri to different ones. I 1997, I went to town picnics, balloon festivals, fairs, food festivals, street fairs, and a lot of other things. I plan on doing that every year. One of my favorite things was seeing the rock group KANSAS! at the Kansas City Food Festival. Yes, that's right. I saw the band Kansas play in Kansas...They were excellent.
