TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE IN SPANISH

There are two ways to talk about the future in Spanish. Just as in English, there is a simple "will" form but there is also an equivalent to our "going to" form.

The Simple Future is formed by adding the appropriate endings (in red font) to the basic infinitive form. All verbs use these endings to form the future tense. Look at the example below where "hablar" (= to speak ") is used:-

hablaré = I will speak
hablarás = you will speak
hablará = he/she/it will speak
hablaremos = we will speak
hablaréis = you will speak
hablarán = they will speak

The "going to" future is formed by putting the Spanish verb for "to go" before the appropriate verb:-

voy a hablar = I am going to speak
vas a escribir = you are going to write
va a dormir = he/she/it is going to sleep
vamos a comer = we are going to eat
vais a trabajar = you are going to work
van a beber = they are going to drink
