Three days later we had our reception at the Park Sheraton hotel. We were surprised to receive over 300 guests in just a few hours. Above is a photo of Vinesh and I lighting the lamp at the beginning of the reception. I made Vinesh wear a Sherwani over his protestations. I didn't travel half way around the world to see Vinesh in a plain old suit, as he would have worn. But then I felt a little foolish sitting in the fancy chair on stage next to Vinesh, as I am not used to people making a big deal over me. We got to meet many of Vinesh's old school friends, teachers, Aunties and Uncles, prominent families of the community--and even Vinesh's dentist and taylor. It was a lot of fun, but I was glad when I finally got to sit down and eat some food!
A few days later, Appa took Kamini, Vinesh, and I to see the 8th century temple by the sea, Mamallapuram, and some beautiful pictures carved right into the stone by the road. This is where we bought our Saraswati murti for our shrine room.
I could not resist rolling up my cuffs and wading in the Bay of Bengal.
