I cast blindly into the water,
Using my heart as bait,
Fishing for words that escaped my soul,
Those unknown to the ear,
Only shared through passion and dreams.
Thoughts of what could be
Violate what little peace I know,
What I could have said or done
To keep you here with me,
Make you want to stay
Despite your inner madness,
Wanting so badly to be free.
But I held the key to the chains
We both wore in our prison.
Our cage was our silence and unwillingness
To act upon what we knew was right.
You chose another way out.
I wonder if you’re really happy now,
If this was what you needed all along,
Or if you’re just waiting for death
To lead you back to where you belong.
I’m left with far too many memories
In far too small a space,
In far too short a time,
And memories are never enough,
But they’re all I have…
