Pokémon Walkthrough

You start out at your house in Pallet Town. First you should go to your PC and extract the Potion there. Then, after you talk to people, you'll find that Prof. Oak isn't in his lab. But when you try to leave town, Prof.Oak will stop you and warn you that Wild Pokémon hide in the grass. He'll take you back to his lab and let you choose a Pokémon to start with.Once you get your first Pokémon and try to leave, Gary will challenge you to your first Pokémon battle. Luckily none of the three Pokémon have learned any Grass/Water/Fire attacks yet, so the fight should be pretty even. If you win, you will gain some money and exp. points. If you lose, this is the ONLY time where losing a battle won't hurt you. Don't bother recharging your Pokémon, as it will automatically recharge after the fight.

After that, head north to Route 1. There are many grassy areas around here, and lots of people that will help you out. Talk to all of them. On this path, you will find the following Pokémon... (Note: If you can only find a certain Pokémon in one version, I will put that in brackets, but if there's just the name, it means you can find it in both versions.) Pidgey, Rattata.

You will not be able to catch any Pokémon yet, but you can fight them for Exp. points. Once you reach Viridan City, talk to people to get more information. You'll meet this cranky old guy in the street who won't let you pass. Ignore him for now and head to the Mart. Talk to the guy behind the counter and he'll ask you to deliver a package to Mr. Oak.

Take the Package back to Mr. Oak and he'll give you and your rival a Pokédex. You can use this to log information about Pokémon you've seen and caught. Your Pokémon will probably need some healing after going back and forth through Route 1, so heal up at your house. While you're in Pallet, stop by your Rival's house to get a map from his sister (don't listen to the remark about him not giving you a map).

Now head back to the Mart in Viridian City and buy some Pokéballs. Talk to the old guy that was blocking the path and he'll be in a better mood and show you how to catch Pokémon. If you want to try it out, head back to Route 1 and catch a Rattata or Pidgey (or both).

If you want, you can turn West of Viridian City and be on Route 22. The Pokémon you can catch here are... Nidoran Male, Nidoran Female, Rattata, Spearow You won't be able to get into Victory Road yet, so don't try. Either way, head north of Viridian to Route 2. Here you will be able to catch... Pidgey, Rattata, Caterpie (blue only), Weedle (red only).

Head into Viridian Forest, but bring along a few Potions and Antidotes. There are a few items, some trainers, and lots of Pokémon in here... Weedle (rare), Kakuna (rare), Caterpie, Metapod, Pikachu (rare) A few Pokémon trainers in here will want to fight you, but all they have are Caterpies, Weedles and Kakunas, and occasionally a Metapod. Keep in mind that trainer's Pokémon are tougher to beat and you cannot run from them. The good thing is that you get more experience and some cash for beating them.

When you exit the forest, you'll be in Pewter City. Be sure to stop by the Museum at least once to get some info on extinct Pokémon. Stock up on Potions and train your Pokémon in Viridian Forest before entering the Pokémon Gym. Make sure your Bulbasaur or Squirtle has Vine Whip or Bubble respectively. If you took Charmander, evolve him to Charmeleon to give him half a chance of winning the next two battles. Before you fight Brock, a Junior Trainer will want to fight you. He has a Diglett and Sandshrew. This should be an easy battle, even with Charmander. Then go talk to Brock to begin the battle.
Gym Leader: Brock
Pokémon Type: Rock
Pokémon: Geodude, Level 12.
Onix, Level 14.
This should be a quick fight with Bulbasaur and Squirtle. Both his Pokémon can be taken out in one or two hits of Water or Grass attacks. If you have Charmander, just Scratch and Ember away at his Pokémon while using a lot of Potions and switching between Pokémon frequently (your other Pokémon will be very helpful with Charmander). When you defeat Brock, you will Recieve the Boulder Badge, a lot of money and Exp, and TM 34. The Boulder Badge gives your Pokémon a small boost in attack power and allows you to use the Flash HM.

After healing up, head east of Pewter City to Route 3. There's a bunch of trainers on this route with many different Pokémon. Since the Pokémon center isn't too far back, don't bother with Potions except in battle. Pokémon you can catch here: Pidgey, Spearow, Jigglypuff. There is a Pokémon Center at the end of Route 3 to heal up at, so do that before entering Mt. Moon. There is a guy in there that is selling a Magikarp for $500. Magikarp is a very weak Pokémon, but he evolves into one of the strongest, so it's up to you to decide what you want to do.

Head North into Mt. Moon. There's plenty more Trainers and items in here, including a couple TMs and a Rare Candy, so take some time to look around. Pokémon you can catch: Zubat, Geodude, Paras, Clefairy (rare). When you go deeper into the cave, you'll notice Team Rocket has pretty much taken over Mt. Moon. At the back of the cave you'll fight Super Nerd, who is responsible for this operation. Defeat his Pokémon and he'll let you have one of his fossils, either the Dome or the Helix. Take your pick and he'll take the other one and vanish. Head out the trap door in the back to end up at Route 4.

At Route 4, there are these Pokémon... Rattata , Spearow, Ekans (red only), Sandshrew (blue only). Route 4 is very short, and leads straight into Cerulean City. But you must jump down a ledge to reach Cerulean City, and you cannot leave the small section of Route 4 or Cerulean City until you defeat Misty, the Gym Leader. Stock up on some more Potions and take out any Pokémon you have that are strong against Water (Paras and Pikachu help a lot). But if you have Bulbasaur or Ivysaur, this will also be a quick fight. Take your Pikachu and Paras to Level 18 (unless you have Bulbasaur or Ivysaur) You will have to fight two trainers before you battle Misty. They have Water type Pokémon too. After defeating them with Pikachu and Paras (or possibly Bulbasaur or Ivysaur), you will fight Misty.
Gym Leader: Misty

Pokémon Type: Water
Pokémon: Staryu, Level 18.
Starmie, Level 21.
If you have Bulbasaur or Ivysaur, defeat both of them with Vine Whip to make this a quick fight. If you don't have Bulbasaur, Pikachu and Paras will be your best bet. Use Thunder Shock and any plant attack Paras acquires. Defeat Misty to recieve her Cascade Badge. The Cascade Badge ensures that all Pokémon up to Level 30 will obey you, and it will enable you to use the Cut ability. As a bonus, you will get TM11. Next, go to the west side of Cerulean and go up to the place with a bunch of houses. Go north up the path to meet Gary. He'll challenge you to a battle. Gary will have Pidgeotto, Abra, Rattata and the Pokémon he got from Prof. Oak. This should be an easy battle. The most threatening Pokémon he has is Abra, but it hasn't learned any attacks yet. Once you defeat him, head North. You'll have to fight a bunch more trainers. Pick up the TMs on this path and head for the Sea Cottage.

You'll meet Bill, the world's biggest Pokémaniac. He seems to have combined his DNA with a Pokémon's. If you help him change back, he'll give you a ticket to the S.S. Anne. If you leave the Sea Cottage and come back in, check the PC to get some info on four rare Pokémon.

Go east to the house with the police officer standing by it. Cross through the house and go east, then south.

You'll be on Route 5. There will be a daycare in the middle of Route 5. Drop off one of your Pokémon and he'll train it for you for a while. After you do that, take the underground path to Route 6. Follow Route 6 to Vermilion City. Pokémon found on Routes 5 and 6: Pidgey, Oddish (red only), Mankey (red only), Bellsprout (blue only), Meowth (blue only).

Once in Vermilion City, be sure to drop by the Fishing Guru's house, as well as the Pokémon Fan Club and some houses. You'll get a Bike Voucher from the Pokémon Fan Club president, which can be traded for a free Bike back in Cerulean City. Someone in this town will want to trade you a Farfetch'd for a Spearow. If you have one, be sure to trade, as Farfetch'd cannot be caught in the wild. If you need a Spearow, head east along Route 11 (prepare to meet some trainers) and look around for a Spearow. Pokémon found here: Ekans (red only), Sandshrew (blue only), Spearow, Drowzee.

If you go to the lookout station at the end of Route 11 (the guard won't let you through yet) and go upstairs, you'll meet one of Prof. Oak's aides. He'll give you the Itemfinder, which allows you to find hidden items, if you have 30 different Pokémon. If you don't have it, come back when you do.

Near Vermilion City, there is a small cave called Diglett's cave. While you can go through here, you can't do much on the other side of the tunnel yet. However, you can catch some Pokémon in here. Diglett, Dugtrio

After you're done getting the Bike and Farfetch'd and a bazillion Pokémon (and the Item Finder if you want), head down onto the docks of Vermilion City and board the S.S. Anne. There's a bunch of trainers and goodies on board. At one point, you'll meet Gary, who will have some more Pokémon for you to beat up. But after fighting Gary, don't go upstairs until you've fought everyone and gotten everything. When you cure the captain's seasickness, he'll give you HM01, which teaches Cut. Teach it to one of your Grass or Ground type Pokémon and leave the ship. The ship will cast off as soon as you step out.

Well, now that you have Cut, you can reach Lt. Surge. Before you fight him, take a Rock or Ground type and this will be the easiest Gym Leader battle. Before fighting Lt. Surge, you must face off with three other trainers and open the two Security Doors. The key to opening the door is to find the switch in one of the trash cans and find another in the trash can next to it. Once you do that, the door will open. Gym Leader: Lt. Surge
Pokémon Type: Electric
Pokémon: Voltorb, Level 21.
Pikachu, Level 18.
Raichu, Level 24.
If you have a Ground or Rock type, this should be an easy battle (even a Diglett will have an easy time in this battle), because Rock and Ground types are immune to Electric attacks. If you must use something else, don't use Water, Electric, or Flying, they will not do well at all. Defeat Lt. Surge to recieve the Thunder Badge and TM 24. TM 24 will teach a Pokémon Thunder Bolt.
Backtrack to Cerulean City and head east. Have your Pokémon cut down the bushes and stop by the Pokémon center. Then go in the Rock Cave and use Flash to light up the place. Make your way through the tunnel and catch some Pokémon. Zubat, Geodude, Machop, Onix.

When you reach the end of the tunnel, you'll be near Lavendar Town. In this town, you'll be able to rename your Pokémon. Go into the Pokémon tower to learn about the Ghosts. Then go upstairs to meet Gary again. He comes packing with some more Pokémon. This battle should be pretty easy, but watch out for the Kadabra he has.

If you try going any further in the tower, you'll meet some ghost Pokémon. But you will be unable to identify them, so you cannot catch them. However you can fight some trainers who are possessed by ghosts. Once you've done everything you can (you'll be stopped from going to the top floor by a ghost that guards it), head back out of the tower.

Head west of Lavendar town along Route 8. If you have the Cut ability, you can catch a bunch of Pokémon here. Pidgey, Mankey (red only), Meowth (blue only), Ekans (red only), Sandshrew (blue only), Growlithe (red only), Vulpix (blue only). There are also a bunch more trainers on this path (the Meowth fanatic is funny). Once you reach the end of the Route, you will not be able to go through the bridge to Saffron yet, but you can go through the underground Path to Route 7. No trainers on Route 7, just a different set of Pokémon. Pidgey, Oddish (red only), Bellsprout (blue only), Mankey (red only), Meowth (blue only), Growlithe (red only), Vulpix (blue only).

Head east into Celadon City. There's a ton of stuff to do in this town! First stop, head west to the Pokémon center and even farther west to Celadon Mansion. There is some cool stuff here, but nothing useful. That is, until you go around and come in the back door. Once you go up the stairs, you can get Eevee. Eevee has the ability to transform into one of three new Pokémon.

It would probably be best if you don't evolve Eevee right away, because it loses all its regular attacks if you evolve it too fast. Head west to Celadon Dept. Store. You can buy everything in here from TMs to Protein and Iron! On the 4th floor, they are selling Element stones, which can evolve your Pokémon. Use one of the three following stones on Eevee:
Fire Stone-------> Flareon
Thunder Stone----> Jolteon
Water Stone------> Vaporeon

(the Leaf and Moon stones have no effect).
Then go to the 5th floor and take the stairs up one more floor. Go to the Vending Machine and buy one of each item. Give them to the girl who is thirsty and she'll give you TM 13, TM 48, and TM 49. Then buy another bottle of water for later. You can also buy some more for your Pokémon (they work like Potions).

Head Southeast to the Diner. Talk to the guy in the corner and he'll give you the Coin Case. Head next door to the warehouse and a member of Team Rocket will mention a Poster in the Game Corner.

Head north to the Game Corner, and talk to people to get some free coins. Try your luck at the slots if you want. Once you're done with that, fight the Team Rocket guy in front of the poster and flip the hidden switch. Then go to the right to find a secret stairway.

Down below, it's a big maze of Team Rocket trainers, items, and moving floors. To turn on the elevator to reach the leader of Team Rocket, you'll need to obtain the Lift key on the fourth basement. A member of Team Rocket has it, so you'll have to fight him first. Once you have the key, go to the elevator and take it to the fourth floor.

Once at this floor, you'll have to fight a couple team rocket members and then the boss of Team Rocket himself, Giovanni. After his defeat, he'll drop the Silph Scope and Team Rocket will leave the building. Take the elevator to the first floor and get out of there.

Once back in Rocket Game Corner, you can win some cool TMs and Rare Pokémon. You can win these Pokémon in the Red...
Abra 180 Coins
Clefairy 500 Coins
Nidorina 1200 Coins
Dratini 2800 Coins
Scyther 5500 Coins
Porygon 9999 Coins
You can win these Pokémon in the Blue...
Abra Cost: 120 Coins
Clefairy 750 Coins
Nidorino 1200 Coins
Pinsir 2500 Coins
Dratini 4600 Coins
Porygon 6500 Coins
You can win these TMs in both versions.
TM 23 3300 Coins
TM 15 5500 Coins
TM 50 7700 Coins
After you're done gambling your coins away, head south of the game corner to a small bush. Cut down the bush and follow the path to the Celadon Gym. Be sure to have a Pokémon type that is strong against Grass attacks (Charmander is useful in this place). There will be a bunch of trainers with Grass Pokémon, and the Gym leader, Erika.
Gym Leader: Erika
Pokémon Type: Grass
Pokémon: Vicreebel, Level 29.
Tangela, Level 24.
Vileplume, Level 29.
Be careful of her Pokémon, because they usually try to Bind you to death or Stun Spore you into defeat. If they get you in a Bind, switch that Pokémon out and put in a new one. Her Bind attack will be interrupted. Defeat all three of her Pokémon to recieve TM 21 and the Rainbow Badge. With the Rainbow Badge, all Pokémon up to Level 50 will obey you. It also allows you to use Strength.
Now that you have the Silph Scope that Giovanni once had, go back to the Pokémon tower. You will now be able to identify and capture the ghosts. Just don't use a Normal, Fighting, or Flying type, because they cannot hurt the Ghosts. Almost anything else will. You can catch: Gastly, Haunter, Cubone Cubone is not actually a Ghost type, they are the Ground type. But be sure to catch one of those too. When you make it to the floor with the ghost that stops you from going upstairs, you will identify it and it will actually be a Marowak (it's the mother of the Cubone in town). You will not be able to catch it, so just defeat it.

On the top floor, there are a few Team Rocket members that want to fight. After that, talk to Mr. Fuji. He'll say that you're rescuing him wasn't nessesary. But he'll give you the Pokéflute. Head south of Lavendar town along Route 12 and play the Pokéflute to wake up the Snorlax there. He will attack you when awakened, but you should be able to handle him (be sure to catch him, he only appears in one other place). Talk to the guy in the house to get another rod, the Good Rod.

On Route 12 Pidgey, Oddish (red only), Gloom (red only), Bellsprout (blue only), Weepinbell (blue only), Venonat (red only).

Follow the docks down to Route 13. Fight more trainers and cross into Route 14. Pidgey, Oddish (red only), Gloom (red only), Bellsprout (blue only), Weepinbell (blue only), Venonat, Ditto.

Follow Route 14 (same Pokémon as Route 13) into Fuchsia City. There is a bunch of stuff to do here. Talk to one guy to get the Super Rod, the best rod. Go into the Safari Zone a few times. There's tons of items lying around and for just $500 , you can catch lots of rare Pokémon (some which cannot be found anywhere else) and all the items lying around are yours for the taking.

The catch is that you cannot use your own Pokémon to battle these Pokémon. You must throw rocks, Bait and Safari Balls to get them (you'll start with 30).

In Area 0 (the first area you enter): Nidoran Male (red only), Nidorino (red only), Nidoran Female (blue only), Nidorina (blue only), Rhyhorn, Venonat, Exeggcute, Parasect, Scyther (red only), Pinsir (blue only), Chansey Area 1 (East of Area 0) Nidoran Male, Nidorino (red only), Nidoran Female, Nidorina (blue only), Doduo, Paras, Parasect, Exeggcute, Scyther (red only), Pinsir (blue only), Kangaskhan
Area 2 (Passing through Area 1) Nidoran Male (red only), Nidorino (red only), Nidoran Female (blue only), Nidorina (blue only), Rhyhorn, Paras, Exeggcute, Venomoth, Tauros, Chansey
Area 3 (South of Area 2) Nidoran Male (red only), Nidorino, Nidoran Female (blue only), Nidorina, Rhyhorn, Paras, Exeggcute, Venomoth, Tauros, Chansey
Area 4 (South of Area 3) Nidoran1 Male, Nidorino (red only), Nidoran Female, Nidorina (blue only), Rhyhorn, Paras, Exeggcute, Doduo, Venonat, Venomoth, Tauros, Kangaskhan
There's lots of cool goodies laying around, including a Nugget and some TMs, as well as some good items. Be sure to go to the Secret House to be awarded HM03, which teaches Surf. To get there, enter area 2, take the left-hand stairs top the other side, go north, right, and up and left at the house. Then go Left and Down to the other side of the lake and the Secret House.
Pick up the Gold Teeth and take them to the Warden outside the Safari Zone to be awarded HM04, which teaches Strength. Once you're done catching Pokémon for a while, go into the gym next to the Pokémon Center.
You'll be in the gym, where there are lots of invisible barriers and ninja trainers with Poison Pokémon. Your best bet will be either a Psychic or other Pokémon resistant to Poison, such as Weepinbell. Once you make your way past all the ninjas and invisible walls, you'll battle Koga.
Gym Leader: Koga
Pokémon Type: Poison
Pokémon: Koffing, Level 37.
Koffing, Level 37.
Muk, Level 39. Weezing, Level 43.
Overall, Koga isn't very tough. Bring plenty of Antidotes into this battle, because most of his Pokémon's attacks are poisonous (though you probably figured that out by now). His Pokémon will mainly rely on the damage done by the poison itself. Defeat Koga to get the Soul Badge and TM 06. The Soul Badge slightly boosts your Pokémon's Defense and allows you to Surf.
Well, your business is done here. Go back to Celadon City and go west to the path. There you will find the other Snorlax, if you didn't get him last time. But the main concern here is to cut down the bush and go into the building up there. Cross through the house and come in a secret entrance on the other side to get HM02, which teaches Fly, a useful technique which returns you to any city you've already been at.
If you want, you can follow the path across the toll booth to end up at Biker's Hill, which is actually routes 16, 17 and 18. There are lots of guys with Poison types, so prepare to battle. On these three routes you will be able to catch... Spearow, Fearow, Doduo, Rattata, Raticate There are no items on this Route (to my knowledge, try the Item Finder). At the bottom of the hill is Fuschia City. Go to the beach south of the Pokémon Center and Surf to Seafoam Island. You can catch: Tentacool
Once in Seafoam Island, go north and down the first flight of stairs. Go south and east up the stairs. Then go west and south down those stairs. Go east and South and use Strength. Arrange the boulders so that you can get to the other side of the rock barrier and push a boulder down the hole. Then push another boulder down the other hole. Then jump in one of the holes. Go north from there to find Articuno. It's no easy task to catch the powerful Articuno. Bring along a Pokémon who has a paralyzing move (like Pikachu with Thunder Wave), one that can put enemies to sleep (like Jigglypuff with Sing), and one that can use a move that lowers accuracy (Flash works pretty well). X Accuracy helps out a lot here. First, Paralyze the sucker, then put him to sleep. Then hit him a few times to reduce his life significantly. If he wakes up, he'll probably be weakened a bit. Use Flash two or three times, then throw a few Ultra Balls and you should get him. If you accidentally defeat him, you'll never be able to get another one, so be careful. If you do defeat him, reset and try again. Now that you've captured Articuno, the rare and powerful bird of Ice, I'll tell you what Pokémon you can find in Seafoam Island.
Entrance Floor Seel, Slowpoke, Slowbro (blue only), Psyduck, Golduck (red only), Horsea (red only), Krabby (blue only), Zubat, Golbat, Shellder (red only), Staryu (blue only).

1st Basement

Seel, Dewgong, Slowpoke, Psyduck, Horsea (red only), Seadra (red only), Krabby (blue only), Kingler (blue only), Shellder, Staryu

2nd Basement

Seel, Slowpoke, Slowbro (red only), Psyduck, Golduck (blue only), Horsea (red only), Shellder, Golbat, Staryu

3rd Basement

Seel, Dewgong, Psyduck (blue only), Krabby (blue only), Kingler (blue only), Shellder, Staryu, Horsea (red only), Seadra (red only)

4th Basement (Articuno's Floor)

Krabby (blue only), Slowpoke (red only), Slowbro (blue only), Psyduck (blue only), Golduck (blue only), Seel, Golbat, Horsea (red only), Shellder

There is a path leading through the island to the other exit, but I never figured it out. If you want to try, go ahead. Otherwise, exit the cave and fly to Pallet. Then Surf to the south. You can catch: Tentacool

There is a small area of grass after you surf south a little. You can catch some Pokémon there.

Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Rattata, Raticate, Tangela

After surfing south past some fisherman and about a billion trainers, you'll end up at Cinnabar Island, the smallest town next to Pallet. You won't be able to get in the Gym yet, because the door is locked. But you can enter the Pokémon Lab and use the Fossil Reviver machine. Give them your Helix/Dome fossil and come back later to get the revived version of your fossil.

Helix- Omanyte
Dome- Kabuto
Return to Pewter City and cut down the bush by the building near the museum and talk to the people in there to get the Old Amber. This can be used to revive Aerodactyl with the Fossil Reviver. Return to Cinnabar Island and your old Pokémon should be ready. Some others in there will want to trade Pokémon as well. Go north of the Pokémon lab and enter that building. This place is pretty beat up. Read the notes on the tables to find out about Mewtwo, a super-powered Pokémon. You'll need to flip switches on some statues to go through here. There are few trainers, and they all have Fire types. Bring some Water types with you to this place. You can catch these Pokémon: Koffing, Weezing, Grimer, Muk, Ponyta, Vulpix (blue only), Growlithe (red only), Magmar (blue only) When you come to a scientist standing by a pit, jump down the pit to land on a lower level. Go downstairs again from here to end up in the basement. Search this floor to find the Secret Key, needed to enter the Gym. You'll also have to fight a few more trainers. After that, go back upstairs and exit. After healing your Pokémon, enter Blaine's Gym. All the trainers have Fire types in here. But you won't need to face them if you go to the screen next to them and answer a Pokémon quiz. If you answer it correctly, the door will open. Answer wrong and you'll have to fight a trainer.
Gym Leader: Blaine
Pokémon Type: Fire
Pokémon: Growlithe, Level 42.
Ponyta, Level 40.
Rapidash, Level 42.
Arcanine, Level 47.
Blaine isn't very tough if you just use Water Pokémon (I won with only a level 31 Tentacruel and a level 37 Starmie). When you win, you will get the Volcano Badge and TM 38, which teaches Fire Blast.
Next, return to Cerulean City (go east of Cinnabar if you want to fight more trainers) and proceed east to the place near the Rock Tunnel. Surf along the water until you find the Power Plant. In here there are many Electric Pokémon. Voltorb, Magnemite, Magneton, Pikachu, Raichu (blue only), Electabuzz (red only) There are several items laying around the Power Plant. While most look like items, they are actually very powerful Voltorbs or Electrodes. Near the exit of the power plant you will find Zapdos, another of the legendary birds. Use the same strategy that you used to catch Articuno (yes, he is vulnerable to electric attacks). Once you catch Zapdos, head back out and go south to the gate with the guard. Give the guard the water that you bought earlier (if you don't have any, return to Celadon and buy some). The guard will let you pass into Saffron City, the last town to visit.

You won't be able to enter the gym because a member of Team Rocket is blocking the door. Instead, go to the Dojo beside it. Fight a bunch of Black Belts, all of which have Fighting Pokémon. Use a Flying or Psychic type to make this a quick battle. After you win, the leader of the gym will give you a choice between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. They are both Fighting types and both would make a good addition to your team. You won't be able to do much in this town yet. If you talk to one guy, he'll give you a TM. Go in Silph Co. and you'll find out Team Rocket has taken over. Fight a bunch of guys and get some good items. If you want to proceed, go to the fifth floor. Fight the team rocket member standing by the teleporter, step on the teleporter, then step back on it. Walk one space down when you arrive to get the key. You can now open the locked doors. On the ninth floor, there is a member of Silph Co. That will heal your Pokémon. Go there if your Pokémon need healing. Go to the third floor and take the locked door down and left from the elevator. Step on the tile to warp to a room where Gary will challenge you again. Once you defeat Gary, the member of Silph Co. will give you a Lapras, a rare Pokémon. Take the other teleporter in that room to find Giovanni. He'll challenge you to a battle. When you defeat his Nidorino, Rhyhorn, Kangaskhan and Nidoqueen, he'll retreat from Silph Co. and so will Team Rocket. Talk to the president of Silph Co. to get the Master Ball, the ultimate Pokéball. It never misses and you don't even have to weaken them first. Save this for later. Once Team Rocket is gone, go to the Gym and fight the other trainers in the Gym. They have Psychic types, so be careful, because Psychic attacks are powerful. If you become lost in the teleporters, keep going up or down from the one you arrive at and eventually you'll end up at Sabrina or the exit.
Gym Leader: Sabrina
Pokémon Type: Psychic
Pokémon: Kadabra, Level 38.
Mr. Mime, Level 37.
Venomoth, Level 38.
Alakazam, level 43.
She is actually the sixth trainer, but she is very tough, the toughest of all the gym trainers. Not much can defend well against Psychic types, except possibly Bug types. A Scyther or Pinsir will be helpful in this battle. If you don't have those, just bring your best and use very strong attacks. If a Pokémon is confused, switch it. Defeat Sabrina to earn the Marsh Badge, and TM 46, which teaches Psywave. The Marsh Badge ensures that any Pokémon up to Level 70 will obey you in combat.

Return to Viridian City and the once abandoned Pokémon gym. There are tons of trainers in here, everything from Gamblers to Black Belts. When you reach the end of all these moving floor traps and trainers, you will find the secret gym leader.
Gym Leader: Giovanni, leader of Team Rocket! Pokémon Type: Ground/Rock
Pokémon: Rhyhorn, Level 45.
Dugtrio, Level 42.
Nidoqueen, Level 43.
Nidoking, Level 45.
Rhydon, Level 50.
Many of his Pokémon are combined with other types, so bring Pokémon that can defend against many types. Your best bet will be a Grass, Water or Ice type. The Nidoking and Nidoqueen are the toughest of the group, so be careful. Once you defeat Giovanni, you will get the Earth Badge and TM 27. TM 27 teaches Fissure, a move that may defeat a Pokémon in one hit.

Now that you've gotten all the badges, head west of town to find Victory Road. Gary will stop you and fight you again. Once you defeat Gary, head east and make sure two of your Pokémon know Surf and Strength. A guard will stop you several times along this road to make sure you have the badges. When you have them all, you can go past them all into the cave. Before the cave there is a grassy area where you can catch Pokémon. Ekans (red only), Arbok (red only), Sandshrew (blue only), Sandslash (blue only), Spearow, Fearow, Ditto

You will enter the Victory Road cave, where there will be several trainers and a big maze of rocks and ledges. (You will need at least one Pokémon that knows Strength to continue). Push boulders onto switches to continue. You can also do some last-minute Pokémon catching. Zubat, Golbat, Geodude, Graveler, Onix, Marowak, Machop, Machoke, Venomoth Note that there are two floors. If you can't find a particular Pokémon on one floor, try the other. As you progrss through the cave, you will find the last (and weakest) of the three legendary birds, Moltres. Use the same strategy to catch him as you did the other two.

When you exit the cave, you will be on Indigo Plateau. Go north past all the statues to a small building which is a Pokémon Center and Store. Stock up with plenty of Full Heals and Max Potions, then go through the north exit to the battle with the Elite Four. You will not be able to stop fighting until you lose or defeat all four. Be sure to bring several different types as well. A winning combo could be an Electric type, a Water type, a Psychic type, a Fighting type, a Ghost type, and a Grass type. 1st of Elite Four: Lorelei
Pokémon Type: Ice
Pokémon: Dewgong, Level 54.
Cloyster, Level 53.
Slowbro, Level 54.
Jynx, Level 56.
Lapras, Level 56.
If you have an Electric, Grass, Fire or Fighting type Pokémon, it will be very useful in this battle. Many of her Pokémon use Water attacks as well, so be careful. Once you defeat her, move on to Bruno, the next of the Elite Four. 2nd of Elite Four: Bruno
Pokémon Type: Fighting and Rock
Pokémon: Onix, Level 56.
Hitmonchan, Level 55.
Hitmonlee, Level 55.
Onix, Level 56.
Machamp, Level 58.
A Water, Grass or Fighting(!) type will quickly defeat his two Onix. As for his other three, use Flying or Psychic types. But be careful, because his Hitmonchan can use Ice Punch and Thunder Punch, two powerful attacks. His Machamp can also use Fissure. Move on to the next challenge.
3rd of Elite Four: Agatha
Pokémon Type: Ghost and Poison
Pokémon: Gengar, Level 56.
Golbat, Level 56.
Haunter, Level 55.
Arbok, Level 58.
Gengar, Level 60.
If you have a Psychic type, this will be the quickest battle, because they are all Poison types and thus weak against Psychic power. If not, try a Fire or Ice attack against her Gengars and Haunter, and an Electric attack for Golbat, and a Ground attack for her Arbok. Once you defeat Agatha, move on to the final member of the Elite Four.
Last of Elite Four: Lance
Pokémon Type: Dragon and Flying
Pokémon: Gyarados, Level 58.
Dragonair, Level 56.
Dragonair, Level 56.
Aerodactyl, Level 60.
Dragonite, Level 62.
A Fighting or Ice type will give you a major advantage in this battle. But many of his Pokémon's attacks are very powerful. If you don't have those types, almost anything else will work fairly well. For his Aerodactyl, a Water or Electric attack will take it out. Don't get too excited when you beat Lance, because you have one more challenge ahead. Your rival had beaten the Elite Four before you, and thus you must defeat him to become champion.
Gary attacks with a Pidgeot, Alakazam, and Rhydon. The last three will vary depending on what Pokémon you chose at the beginning of the game.
If you chose Bulbasaur, he will have Exeggutor, Gyarados and Charizard. If you chose Squirtle, he will have Arcanine, Exeggutor and Venusaur. If you chose Charmander, he will have Gyarados, Arcanine and Blastoise. One you defeat Gary, Prof. Oak will show up. He will congratulate you for defeating the Elite Four and say how disappointed he is with Gary. He will then record your Pokémon in the Hall of Fame. But when the credits start rolling, don't turn off the game. When the screen comes to "The End" press a button until the game resets.
Load your saved game. You will be back at Pallet, but otherwise everything else will be normal. Go north of Cerulean City and Surf to the cave that the guy was standing in front of earlier. He will be gone and you will be allowed to enter. You can catch lots of Pokémon here: Arbok (red only), Golbat, Marowak, Ditto, Raichu, Wigglytuff, Dodrio, Sandslash (blue only), Rhydon This cave is a very complex maze. But at the end of it is the Pokémon that destroyed the lab at Cinnabar, the mighty Mewtwo. If you still have that Master Ball, now is the time to use it. If not, you'll have to have a lot of luck to catch him. It's possible to catch Mewtwo without the Master Ball by freezing him, putting him to sleep, paralyzing him, and getting him down to virtually no life. Once you catch Mewtwo, pretty much all there is to do is catch the rest of the Pokémon you're missing. Try fishing everywhere and trade if you can't find another in the game (The two other forms of Eevee, the two other Starting Pokémon, etc.). Also, try talking to other people to find out if they have a Pokémon you can't otherwise find.
