MT. ELDEN (FLAGSTAFF REPEATER) UPDATE!
[POSTED OCT. 18, 1997]
Well, for all of you that are wondering about the Flagstaff Mt. Elden 440 repeater, there is good news.
The lease agreement for the building has been finalized. We can occupy at any time now; we are simply trying to find an open time to complete the installation when all of the parties involved are free. It has been a very busy time for all of us; installation will hopefully occur before the end of October.
The repeater frequency has been coordinated, so there are no problems there.
As far as the 420 link between Mt. Elden and Kingman, that will not be possible for technical reasons involving coordination and existing link pairs in northern Arizona. The link into the NOWARE system will be via a link to the Prescott repeater, instead; with Prescott linked to Ram Pk. or Kingman, it will effectivly link Elden into the rest of the system. I will be working with John-KM6BF on linking plans. The first step, however, will be to get the basic 440 repeater unit installed on the mountaintop.
Once again, many thanks are owed to people that have made this possible:
Rick N0NKU, Larry KI7AX, Rod WA6ITC, and John KM6BF <-----for help in link issues
Stay tuned for further reports. The next update posted will be just hours after the actual installation is complete!
73,

NEW WEB SITE UPDATES COMPLETED
[POSTED OCT. 18, 1997]
I have completed the latest major updates to the web site, as of today, the 18th of October. You will find many, many more photos, news items, and slight changes to the 'look' of the site in the "links" section.
Many thanks to Larry and David in California for e-mailing me a large quantity of scanned photographs for use on the web site. You will find pictures from each of the repeater sites in CA/AZ (Mt. Francis, Kingman, Turquoise, Sunset, etc.). There will be many more posted to the site as I receive them from different parties.
LATE BREAKING NEWS...POSSIBLE SCRRBA RESIGNATIONS!
[POSTED OCT. 17, 1997]
There has been some rumors spreading around over teh last few days regarding two possible resignations from SCRRBA (Southern California Repeater and Remote Base Association).
The rumors were, in fact, verified as being true according to a letter received by another member of our group. He received an invitation to the November 1, 1997 meeting. The letter verified that Robin and Bill were resigning from SCRRBA.
There was also discussion of the exploration and pursuance of 12.5 Khz repeater frequency splits by SCRRBA.
What has led to these resignations? Most likely all of the email correspondence, and pressures from the ARRL and fellow amateurs. But nobody can say for sure at this time. We will all have to wait until November, when all will be revealed.
SCRRBA/ARRL MEETING RESULTS
Rod received 2- 440 pairs for Big Bear, one open, one closed.
A change of one link freq at Kingman resulted in complete link pairs from Sunset to Big Bear, Big Bear to Kingman, approval of Kingman Hub as a repeater.
Potential freqs for co-channel to obtain a new Sunset pair on 440 will be worked on.
Don received a new link pair for Snow to Kingman as well as 420 links between Heaps,Quartzite, Sunset,Horse, and Oat. The 900 hub links will change to new freqs approved by SCRRBA. Don also received approval for a 440 pair at Santiago.
At the open co-ordination forum, many opinions were expressed by Rod, Dale, Larry and others. Our comments were so well received that I got a "dirtbag asshole" comment from 3 jerk-offs wearing green "PRICK" shirts as I left to go back to SCRRBA closed meeting.
We were not able to stay for the ARRL forum that started at 4 p.m. Our first session started at 11:30 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m., when the frequency coordination forum started. We returned at 4 p.m. at continued until 9 p.m.
Cliff Houser, Fried Heim, Art Goddard(?) from ARRL and Bill Kelsey & Robin Critchell from SCRRBA were present with Rod, Don, and I for the first session. During the time consuming second session with Rod, Don, and I, Robin was there the whole time with stop ins by Bill, Tom O'Hare, Cliff, Fried, and numerous complaining parties that included DEARS and BHARC.
All paperwork issued at end of meeting. Will be forwarded to ARCA by SCRRBA. SCRRBA had been in contact with ARCA prior to meeting. There was no discussion of any activities by our group east of Kingman other than ARCA will have full responsibility with NO involvement by SCRRBA,but the full system block diagram will be maintained by SCRRBA.
The meeting set up by Fried Heim and supported by Cliff Hauser resulted in final coordination documents and committments for additional assistance in future expansions and growth. The pressure for this meeting was the result of the backing received from all of your e-mails. Thanks to all, including the ARRL and SCRRBA.
All parties involved were treated properly and NO politics were discussed during the closed sessions, however policies were explained and defined verbally. The open forum resulted in a few pointed questions regarding politics and policies, but we ran out of time to continue.
12.5 splits, hoarding of freqs.,non-use and minimal use of a freq.,co-channel, interference, and a few more items were discussed in both open and closed meetings. Some clarified, some still cloudy. SCRRBA represents the "community".
The community is not the general ham public. It is the voting member of a co-ordinated repeater owner on one of the 200 pairs of open/closed 440 pairs. Any changes in SCRRBA policy must be approved by the "community" in a vote at a SCRRBA meeting. (Next meeting, Nov.1st Saturday, Claremont)
I challenged this as did Rod. If the "COMMUNITY" of narrow-minded selfish owners refuse to address 12.5 splits, SCRRBA won't. There are 600 plus repeaters on the 200 pairs from San Louis Obispo south to Mexico. These voting owners control the entire 440 spectrum in that area. If they don't want changes, SCRRBA can't make them!
Thanks for all your support and efforts. A very deserved thank you to Fried Heyn, Cliff Hauser and SCRRBA, Robin & Bill.
FROM THE "I CAN'T BELIEVE I HEARD IT ON AMATEUR RADIO" FILES...(Humor)
A little while ago Dan-N6BKL was talking on 6m to someone and the subject of radios was going on and they other guy said something and Dan asked him if it was a "800 or 900 Mhz Trunked Radio" and they reply was "No, it's a dash mount radio"!
The madness continues.
NEW REPEATER ON SYSTEM COMING SOON....MT. ELDEN IN FLAGSTAFF, AZ!
A new repeater owned by Matt Strandberg, KJ7DX, will be installed at a site on Mt. Elden, above Flagstaff, Arizona. It will be linked to the Kingman 440 repeater via a 420 Mhz link. All NOWARE and associated system members may use it! Expected time for installation is still the first week of October. Let's hope we beat the first snowfall!
