Tools of Wicca

Brooms, cauldrons, wands!!! It's all here.

These are commonplace tools that are often used in Wicca. Although not at all necessary, these do help to put your mind into a ritual framework.

Athame---This has a variety of pronounciations, but the one I'm familiar with is the one where athame rhymes with whammy.
The Athame is a black-handled knife. Black is used because it is believed to absorb energy. This is not used for practical matters. See Boline, below. The athame is used when conducting energy, and to invoke. This represents the God because of it's obvious phallic shape. It also represents the Element of Fire.

Cauldron---The cauldron is a round vessel with three legs usually. It is used when scrying, usually also at Spring rites. This represents the Goddess because of it's round shape. It represents the Element of Water.

Wand ---The wand is a very personal obect. Usually made of the Rowan or Willow tree. Wiccans find it useful to measure the wand from the crook of the elbow, to the tip of the first finger. This can used for stirring any brews you may be making. It represents the Element of Air.

Broom ---The myth of the flying witch got started in this manner. All women had brooms around back in the day. So when witches had their gatherings, the broom was a handy object used to physically sweep the area of the rite, and to physhically cleanse the area of any negativity. This is how it is used today. Witches could conceal a tool of their religion, disguising it as a common object, and try to defer the possibility of been hung a witch.

Pentacle ---The pentacle is used to place objects on in a ritual setting. It is of course, the symbol of Witchcraft or Wicca. The four side points represent Water, Earth, Fire and Air. The top point is Akasha, or spirit. The Pentacle represents Earth.

Boline ---The boline is a lesser known cousin of the Athame. This is a white handled knife that is used for more practical reasons like the cutting of a wand, or other objects. White is said to dispell energy, the opposite of black.

Now this next one isn't technically a tool, but in a way it is so I will include it here. A Book of Shadows is a book that contains spells, invocations, rites, etc. BoS (Book of Shadows) are sometimes passed down from witch to witch or coven to coven. It is a very personal book that should be handwritten. This is kind of like a personal reference book. Just be sure your handwriting is legible by flickering candlelight.
