Introduction

For as long as I can remember,I have been involved in some aspect of the Arts. I have been composing music since the age of 12, but never thought of it as a career option. As a child, My dream was to become a doctor. After trying unsuccessfully to attain a degree in this area, I have made the decision to focus on what I love doing. My major career goal is to earn a living solely through the composing music.

Attempt

After high school, I joined the reserve forces and planned to go to the University of Miami(I'm from Mississippi). Unfortunately, things didn't work out quite the way I planned. Right after boot camp, 9/11 happened and I was called to active duty.I was force to defer my enrollment year of college to these circumstances. In the fall of 2002, I was able to start at UM under the pre-med program. To make a long story short, I was there for one semester and was forced to leave due to inadequate funding (GI Bill didn't do so much).

After leaving UM, I tried to enroll in courses at MDCC, but faced issues with enrollment because I wasn't 24 years old, wasn't married and didn't have a child. Although I was an independent student at UM, MDCC didn't see me as one. That kept me out of school for about two years, or until my daughter was born in 2004 ( I was able to enroll as an independent once she was born).

Resolve

After all of the roadblocks, I decided that my desire to go into the medical field was motivated by external forces and wasn't something that I really wanted to do. I love creating music and decided that I should enroll into the music business program. Although I lost interest in the producer title (anyone and most everyone thinks they are a producer), I actually create, read and write MUSIC and musical notation.I don't do beats( I hate it when anyone asks me if I do beats). I am a musician.

I am currently working in the call center of a major cruise line. I see this job as just that....a job. I have no plan to remain there too much longer because I see it as someone else's dream being fulfilled and not my own. That is probably why I think the whole idea of that industry is absurd.People take it too seriously.I'm also aging faster and find that I don't enjoy doing some of the things that I used too, such as going to the gym at least twice a week.

I don't plan on waiting until after graduation to start my career. I've actually taken the first steps to start my own songwriting venture. I am a member of an independent A&R company that listens, critiques and sometimes forwards my compositions to publishers. I am working at this as if it is a real job, because eventually, my livelyhood will depend upon it.
