Association Overview
The Urban M.I.C association is establishing itself as the forerunner in Spoken Word expression awareness in urban communities. We are a group of artist lending our talents to educate and empower our youth using contemporary art forms of Spoken word expression. The essence of spoken word is communication, the ability to express individual thoughts and ideas. Urban M.I.C association is using this literary art form of poetry as an outlet for youth to guide and shape their personhood, emotions, and views into art.
The differences and similarities of people are the common links that thread life experiences, into perceptions through the medium of the arts. Urban M.I.C’s goal is to stimulate the minds of urban teens through the facilitation of workshops covering a varitiey of issues that teens embark on a daily basis. These issues relate, but are not limited to urban violence, teen pregnancy and drugs. By creating an “open” atmosphere for the exchange of ideas it is our goal to promote feelings of self worth, increase self esteem and inspire hope for their futures.
