Many people, when they first begin drawing, start putting in as much detail as they can, thinking that will make the drawing look more “real”. The first thing that needs to be done though is establish those major lines that will guide everything else in the drawing – even if it doesn’t look like anything at first. Without those guidelines, nothing will work.

So, the very first marks put on paper might be something like this:
