Product Description
Christine Marek-Matejka
The
Marek-Matejka fine art collection is composed of mixed media uniquely applied
in various combinations, to often-recycled spruce and pine plywood, and
oriented strand board from the local Swan Valley Louisiana Pacific plant in
Manitoba.

The underlying
textural quality of each work is determined by the roughness of the wood, which
is cut to size, hand-sanded, then primed, lacquered, or left raw to serve as a
natural-colored, organic undercoat.
Works done in
pastel and watercolor are thoughtfully and sensitively composed and integrated
into the underlying grain. Much
consideration is given to the resulting transparency or opacity that will be achieved in the final product. These works are then either sealed with lacquer-based
fixative, but more often are alternatively preserved under glass and frame to
maintain their lustrous, vibrant color quality.
Alternatively,
works done in acrylic on OSB have a lively collage-like appearance resulting
from the rich fibrous textural quality of the wood surface. Some of these works have been mistaken for tapestries. Both surface and edges are sanded and
painted as an extension of the subject matter giving each work a
three-dimensional uniform quality.
