Now Playing: My First Entry
Topic: Admitting I'm A Writer
Wow! So this is it...my first blog and my first entry! I thought I'd never get here. Oh I'm sorry before I begin rambling, allow me to formally introduce myself. I am Tracie E. Christian aka T-Race and I am a new-found, undiscovered, unpublished writer! Now I've finally admitted it. And please believe that admitting it was a magnificent feet for me all in itself. Let's just say it took me a helluva long time to admit that I am a writer.

My writing started out as a hobbie. See I'm also a former middle school substitute teacher with Detroit Public Schools,so random writing is what I did to stop from going totally mad! I wrote poems about whatever I had heavy on my heart. Then, I made the fatal mistake of letting my family (i.e. my husband; mother and best friend)read my poetry.
Strangely enough, they liked all of them (about 6 at the time)and encouraged me to keep writing. So that's exactly what I did in November 1999. After about a year and a half, I had 98 poems ranging on subjects from love/sex and happiness to hate/betrayal and the state of our world.

Once my ever so helpful husband saw how many poems I wrote, compiled in a leather binder my two best home-girls bought me to keep them in, he said, "You need to protect these!" I said, "What the hell for?" They're just my thoughts, and I'm nobody. He said, "And Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou were just her thoughts! She at one time was a nobody too so, protect your shit!" And with that sentiment I started the research on the Internet for copy right procedures, found it, applied and in January, 2002, I received notification and a Certificate of Registration from the Library of Congress that protected an unpublished volume of poetry called, Urban Verses - Poetry to Make You Say Hmmm, owned solely by me! Dig That!

The moral of today's story is that if your blessed enough to have surrounded yourself with honest, loving people, they will kick you in the ass to get you to realize your hidden talents, even when you fight it! Now if that ain't love...I don't know what is! And maybe I don't know what love really is...but I think I have an idea. So check out this poem I wrote back then (one of the original 6) and let me know what you think:

NO OTHER

Hello there, my brother...
Have I expressed to you lately that for me there is no other?

It's just you, my Dude and those things you do.

It’s metaphorical yet rhetorical, what your body says to mine.
Leaves me reminiscing for hours of the passion that erupted the last time our bodies intertwined.

That's just you, my Dude and those things you do.

The messages that lie within your touch are subliminal.
Hell, the pleasure you provide is damn near criminal.
Sparking moans and groans all morning ‘til the late hours of the evening.
The next day mental recollections of our explosive session leave my body feenin’.

And that's you, my Dude and those things you do.

The feeling soothes my skin, yet sends tremors up and down my spine.
I’ll take a little more of that Mo’ Betta, anyplace, at anytime.
Then when the pleasing has ended, with your arms wrapped around me so tender and kind,
You gaze into my eyes and without words, we communicate and you make love to my mind.

Because it is only for you, my Dude and those things you do.

So now my sweet, luscious, splendid, Nubian Brother, you see…why for me, there is No Other!
