Iris Print is a recent form of print making technology. Iris prints are sometimes called "Giclee Prints" (Giclee means "to spray forcefully" in french). There are two basic steps in the iris printing process. First, a digital image is created directly onto the computer using either photos and/or drawings that the artist has created. The second step is the actual printing of the digital image. The Iris process uses a customized Iris 3047 ink jet printer. Unlike desktop printers, the Iris uses a sophisicated print head that disperses each ink drop in a micro fine mist of minute droplets. 1.5 microns (about the size of a human blood cell), to deliver a rich image of continuous tone.
