9/11 From A Kids Eye!
Now Playing: Coming Soon!
Gianni Scott-Moncrieff, born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 13th is eleven years old, who is also a budding, young film maker. He lives with his parents in New York City. As a six-month old, Gianni first came to United States when his parents settled in Los Angeles where his father came to work as a television producer. His mother, former model and producer, put her career on hold to stay home and make sure Gianni got a good start through his early years. He attend the Gan pre-school at the “Kabbalah Center” of Los Angeles. With his multi-racial feature’s and red hair, Gianni always stood out, and his mother recalls how when he was a toddler riding in his stroller, “People would stop us to talk to me and meet this interesting looking child.” While living in Los Angeles, Gianni was lucky enough to meet some famous celebrities, including Robert Redford, Whoopi Goldberg, Sheryl Crow, Modern English,David Gahan, Jerry Sienfeld, James Earl Jones, Tom Petty, and Gil Bellows. “It happened so many times, that it was almost like he was being anointed by these celebrities,” remembers his mother . When Gianni was three and a half, the family relocated to his mothers’ home town, New York City. After settling in the East Village, his mother decided to follow the advice she had heard from so many people, and see if Gianni really could make it in show business. Engaging the services of a friend who was also a photographer, some pictures were shot and submitted for consideration to two agencies. Gianni was signed to the first places his pictures were sent. Abrams Artists, one of the top child agencies in New York, signed him for commercial’s, and Product Modeling Agency represented him for print work. His parents spent a lot of time running around the city to cattle calls and casting sessions. He quickly built a portfolio of advertising shots and also landed a job as an extra on the soap opera “As The World Turns”. As Gianni became older, the importance in education superceded Gianni’s modeling career, and the casting calls were deliberately slowed down when Gianni started kindergarten at the Solomon Schecter School. At the age of nine he won a scholarship to study dance at the Dance Theater of Harlem soon after that he studied with The American Ballroom Dance Company. Gianni has a natural inclination towards the Arts with relatives who have made cultural contributions on both sides of the Atlantic. Gianni’s grandfather, George Scott-Moncrieff was a well known Scottish author and playwright. He was a columnist for The Scotsman, a national newspaper, wrote over ten books and a number of play’s and sat on the board of the renowned Edinburgh International Arts Festival. Gianni’s great-grandfather was well known illustrator Keith Ward who is remembered as the illustrator of the Dick and Jane series of books. He also was the original illustrator for the Black Stallion books and designed the trademark cow for Elmers school glue. Gianni’s great-uncle C. K. Scott-Moncrieff was the respected translator of Proust and Stendahl. And a more contemporary relative is his cousin, the film producer Tim Bevan, who is known for being the producer of the Coen brothers films and movies like Four Weddings And A Funeral and Elizabeth. Gianni is now pursuing independent film making, and sees it as a way to voice concerns for children’s issues. The first project he is making, is a film about 9/11 and how it has affected the children living in the area. nineelevenfromakidseye@yahoo.com copyright 2004
