The beauty of the Dear Jane quilt is you can join in at any point, you can make the blocks using your favorite methods, you can make the blocks at your own speed. You can work a head of the group, or learn as you go We are hand quilting at the shop but some of the girls go home and sew some of their blocks by machine. Everything is legal with this quilt because you are making it yours. Members are willing to guide you but we do not have an instructor. Who know we may be inviting "experts " (those who have finished the quilt ) to come in and talk about their journey.
Cost per session is $2.00. The store is open during our meeting, so come and check us out.
We hope you are willing to show off your blocks each week at show and tell. This is strictly voluntary.
Bring your snacks and drinks. We sometimes have pot luck snacks but it is not expected. It just happens. |

Supplies you will need to
bring: If you plan to do the entire quilt in the same background material it is recommended you by 9-10 yards. Elaine sells appropriate muslin and background fabric in the shop, so take a look. A selection of your favorite fabrics you want to make your quilt out of. Some of the girls are making their quilts out of C-W reproduction others are using Aunt Gracie's, scraps from other quilts or have a collection of fabrics of coordinating fabric. Select fabrics you really love because you will be looking at them for a long time. The basic layout for Dear Jane is AROUND THE WORLD. Your Dear Jane book. Some of the girls have taken their books to a office supply store and had the book spiral bound to make it easier to use. Your favorite hand quilting supplies, needles, needle threaders, thimbles, thread. It has been suggested to use #11 or # 12. Scissors.... small embroidery types. Several mechanical pencils for marking. Or you favorite marking system and supplies. Most supplies are available through Elaine's shop. ( It seems we always leave something at home.) She carries Gutterman's hand quilting thread and the Dear Jane square up rulers just for us. If there is something special you want, Elaine is more than happy to order it for you. Rotary Cutters, small mat, your square up templates and rulers. ( I have been using my Omni grid rulers.) We are allowed to use the shop cutting supplies when they are not busy. Reynolds Freezer Paper for making templates ( We now keep a box in the store for our use.) Card stock may be need in the future (optional.) At our previous group many of the girls purchased or made their own carriers for their quilt blocks using a 3 ring blinder and sheet protector sleeves. They are able to carry their blocks in progress with their patterns and some of their completed blocks with them easily. . I will add more information as we go along.
