The purpose of the four-week unit in Social Science is to increase my student’s awareness about California political process and the effect of this process on their lives. It will focus on how during the past and currently in present, the state of California experiments in the implementation of new progressive political movements, often becoming a trend setter in the nation in its use of novel political processes. California’s propensity to institute new political trends represents both positive and negative aspects of politics in California. The residents and public images of California have been heavily shaped by the influence of these new political trends, as these policies have always affected the lives of California residents both in the past and present. During the one-month period my students will analyze the foundations of law and governance in California’s history to see how the social trends of California evolved in conjunction with the growth of its governmental institutions.
