Faux Layering
Technique By Mary Wise
As part of our No Adhesive Challenge Mary
shared these fantastic cards on our group; I loved them so much I just HAD to
have the technique for the newsletter!! I’m sure you will agree with me that
they are absolutely stunning!
Materials required:
- Acetate sheet
- Craft knife
- Ruler
- Craft Cutting Mat
- Permanent Marker Pen
- White card stock
- Inkpads in desired colours
- Black Dye Inkpad
- Sponges
- Photo dots
- Post-It-Note pad or other paper for
masking
Directions:
- Cut a piece of Acetate 11cm x 15cm.
- Measure in 2cm from each side at the
top corners and put a dot there with a permanent marker as a guide.

- Cut out the center from the piece of
Acetate.
- Use photo dots to anchor your acetate
frame to the work surface.
- Using the frame as a template lay it
over the center of your white card stock and sponge around the inside
edges.
- Next move it to other positions of your
choice and again sponge around the inside edge of the template (to create
faux layers) - two moves is probably enough but that is up to you.
- Mask off the sponged areas with Post It notes trimmed to size or whatever you wish to use
but they are good as they have the removable adhesive strip at the top.
- Sponge colour a little darker around
the outside area.
- Leave the masks in place and stamp with
a suitable background stamp.
- Remove the masks and stamp whatever you
fancy into the centre area or whatever you feel
like doing. Gives a great effect.
- Decide which areas can be shadowed and
apply a little black ink gently with a brush to those edges to throw them
into relief.
