Photography in WWI
- Before WWI
Cameras had never been used in war. In the previous wars (when the technology was available)
the technology had not yet advanced to the point where clear photographs were obtainable. The only
pictures available in wars before were created by artists, and were not true pictures of battles.
Because of this, war was interpreted as a noble battle, however this wasn't true, especially
in WWI.
- Use of Cameras in WWI
The first aerial images were taken during WWI, made available by airplanes. They allowed
people to see the war as never before, from an elevation of 10,000 feet. These pictures, along
with all the others taken during the war, allowed artists to express themselves, rather than
be forced to be an accurate source.
