MUSIC MAN AMP REPAIR |

These are really nice amps quite underrated by the general public with a small but very loyal following. I bought a 210-HD in the early 70's and it is definitely one of the amps I let go of that I wish I had today. Very snappy response, a nice clean rhythm sound, but still good for a moderately broken up Albert King tone. They are very rugged amps and have held up well over the years. These are Hybrid amps, with solid state front end and tone circuits. Most have a driver tube feeding 6L6 or 7027A output tubes. I usually do a fairly standard renewal/upgrade on these, replacing all filter and bypass caps and replacing overheated resistors, in addition to the usual PC board resoldering and control cleaning. These amps used rather primitive and rough sounding opamp IC's and I replace them with the much smoother Burr-Brown OPA134 series. There is also a small combo 12" amp (RD 50) that has one of the strangest bias/power limiter/compression circuits ever put into a amp, but it results in a little amp that can sound huge in the right setting. Definitely worth restoring, a real surprise if se up properly.
