 PEDALBOARD REPAIR, WIRING & DE-BUGGING

We have over thirty-five years experience in the repair, restoration and fine-tuning of tube amplifiers. Unlike most music stores we are a qualified high-end audio repair shop with full test equipment and extensive technical background. We take tube amp repair far beyond the usual "replace all the caps, change the cooked resistors, clean the controls and hope for the best". We have done extensive restoration of vintage equipment that has been repaired and modified through the years, often losing precious tone along the way. We can voice amps to match your requirements and taste, and offer technical ability along with years of knowledge of how amps can and should sound.

A professional service company, we are located  in the Stony Brook Technology Center, East Setauket, NY. We have a store front and service counter, keep regular business hours, pay commercial rent and  have been in business thirty years, twenty-two at our present location. This is our day job. All repair work is done at our premises, not sent out "somewhere " to be repaired.  We accept VISA/MC and Discover.

Repair costs are $145.00 labor, plus parts.

Minor repairs, such as control cleaning, replacing loose jacks, etc. 78.00

Tube change and bias 48.00

Turnaround time is usually two weeks, no rush jobs are  accepted, so as to not waste your time and piss us off, do not ask.

Major restorations are usually 200-250.00 labor, we always provide a estimate before work is started. Warranty and  other additional information can be found on our FAQ page.

We do not routinely change film (tone) caps in vintage amps unless they are actually defective or have been replaced with improper parts in the past as these are critical to the sound of a vintage amplifier.

We do strongly advise that really collectable vintage amps not be extensively modified. In some cases we will decline work that we feel would ruin a piece of vintage equipment.

Turnaround time is two weeks, no rush jobs are usually accepted.

We have specific information on may amps, please follow the links in the table on the left side of this page.

Our specialty is repairing, restoring and modifying every kind of tube guitar amplifier.  We understand what tone you are looking for even if it is not our particular taste in sound.  We take the time to get a feel for what our customers are looking to get out of their setup.

It is a great personal satisfaction when a customer takes the time to tell us how a tone restoration or amp repair works out.  Sometimes it can be someone happy that we cleaned up the sound of ratty sounding amp , some times it can be a player thrilled that their amp finally screams "just right" when really nailed to the wall. The point is that we take a open minded approach to tone and do not just send out every amp the way we like it to sound.  If you want clear crisp "clean and loud ", sweet singing overdrive or full out crunch, we try understand your  wishes and give you the sound you want.

Whether simply repairing your dead amp and returning it to you just the way it was before it failed or completely restoring a hacked up "modified" amp, our commitment to quality is the same.

Some additional Info:

The owner and lead technician of our shop built his first guitar amp from a RCA tube record player chassis when he was twelve and is pretty old now. An after school job repairing amps in the basement of a Long Island music store led to a thirty five year career in audio equipment repair.  Having owned, played and repaired Fender, VOX, Ampeg, Marshall, Gibson and hand made amps for years, this experience is responsible for the quality of work we perform.

Our basic premise is that good tone begins in the combination of Guitar - Amp- Speaker, not in add-on's, stomp boxes and studio effects - If the sound is not there in the first place it is just not there.  No matter what the style this is where it begins.
We provide a combination of "Bench and Ear" to fully meet the unique requirements of repairing vintage and custom tube gear.
