Because of design similarities between Manley and VTL equipment  this information applies to both. We repair all of these amplifiers and preamps. Normal problems are burnt resistors, shorted power supply  components, and soldering defects.  For the most part these are dependable amps needing only repairs common to most tube equipment. We have done some research into improving the sound quality of many of these units- (many owners feel they are over clinical and harsh sounding for a tube amp). We have replaced the stock caps with AudioCap Theta  tin/poly's, or Jantzen Z-caps, added polypropylene bypass caps to cathode and power supply circuits to very good effect. A local High-End dealer in this area carried VTL, so we have done a lot of this cap upgrade work on Manley/VTL amps and have good feedback on the results. Resistors used in these units are generally high quality and there seems to be no real advantage in upgrade.

Many older power amplifiers will require replacement of the large power filter cans, these are high failure items.

Depending on the size of the amp, prices would run between 150 and 250.00 for basic repairs, full upgrades $400-600.00
