There are
really only two APT / Holman products we see for service, The Holman
preamp is by far the most common, although we have repaired many of the
APT-1 amplifiers
HOLMAN PREAMP:
The problems in this unit are always the same, intermittent audio, loss
of signal, weak bass, etc. We have a standard service for this model: We
resolder the PC boards, clean all switches and controls, upgrade the
mute relay, replace all electrolytic caps with upgrade parts, replace
the power regulators that are always overheated, upgrade the power
rectifiers and check for any additional problems. If nothing unusual is
found the repair/upgrade charge is 175.00
We also offer a top level upgrade involving premium parts, Hexfred power supply, circuit mods to power supply and signal path and
replacement of all audio IC's to Burr-Brown opamps. The cost of this
upgrade is 375.00, 350.00 if there is no desire for using the phono
section. There is no difference between the standard and "studio
rackmount" units. If you have no use for he phono stage, the unit can be converted to 5-line input at no extra charge.
APT-1
Only two types of problem have been found-signal dropout and blown
channel
The dropout problem is caused by bad solder connections. We resolder the
board, clean and remount the output transistors and replace a few caps
for good measure. This usually corrects the problem. If this is all that
is wrong, the repair charge is 125.00.
A blown channel in this set usually does no more damage than destroying
the output transistors. If this is the case the repair would be 175.00
and includes the service outlined above.
An upgrade
option involving upgrade caps is available for an additional 100.00
