We have restored many of this model . We usually replace all  changed value carbon resistors with metal-oxide power types, replace all coupling and filter caps and upgrade the power supply to fast recovery rectifiers and upgrade the RCA jacks. This service level is usually 400.00, and includes premium caps as standard. There are some options and additional power supply upgrades available, please inquire. We advise using  JJ/TESLA KT88  tubes in this unit for best results.

This is a real nice amp. We have put some time into getting the most from this model. We replace all resistors with metal-oxide power, replace all caps, rework the power supply and add additional filtering. We modify the bias balance circuit to avoid the need to use any adjustment to balance the output tubes. The stock balance circuit in this set was not very good, being unstable and prone to drift. The basic charge for this service is 375.00
We advise using JJ/TESLA 6L6GC's for both sonic quality, reliability and power. Upgrading the power output tubes to JJ/TESLA KT88's  will let this unit deliver the full potential of the design and  transformers in this model. A small circuit change is required, there is no extra charge for this service.

 As standard service we replace all coupling caps, all carbon resistors in current  carrying circuits, clean all switches and controls and check the unit completely. There are many options possible in upgrading and modifying this model, including complete replacement of all resistors with metal film, bypassing various switches and controls, bypassing the tone stage, tube selection, etc. The basic service / overhaul is 275.00
 A real top level rework  is  about  500.00, 400 if there is no phono stage work done.

Integrated amps, receivers ( general information)

Most of the problems with these units are due to overheated solder connections. H-K has always used high current designs in preamp and driver stages and this causes a lot of solder breakdown. We always completely
resolder the boards on these units , and along with cleaning of controls and switches , this usually will solve 70% of the problems we see in these sets. Repair cost will usually be in the 150.00-250.00 range

Power amps:

Citation power amps tend to be quite reliable for years, then develop noise and intermittent audio distortion. As stated before this is usually caused by solder connections, plus corrosion of push-on pcb connectors.
We resolder the circuit boards, solder the connectors,  remove, clean and remount the output transistors, and rebias the amp. Quite often this is all that is required to restore the amp to original operating condition.

Citation 16's are known to have failure of the main power caps causing hum to develop after a few hours of operation. We have replacement filter caps available for these and the additional parts charge is 145.00

Citation preamps tend to develop loss of signal clarity due to capacitor aging. We usually advise a complete upgrade/overhaul to premium caps and HexFred power supply. Cost of basic repair is about 250.00, 350.00 for the complete top level upgrade.
