We repair, overhaul and upgrade all models of C-J amplifiers
and preamps, some of the most common are listed below. If you do
not see your particular item listed, please be assured that we do work
on it. Please feel free to contact us if you have any specific
request.
Preamps:
Many of the early production C-J preamps have developed
component breakdowns over the years. Filament rectifiers,
various caps and resistors overheat and change value, and the
early series coupling caps lose value (this causes a familiar
problem: muddy bass, no real high-end and a blurred midrange)
Models Affected:
EARLY PREMIER SERIES:2, 3, 6,7
(later production 6,7 had much better caps)
PV-1,PV2,
PV-3,PV4,PV-5,
PV-7, PV-10, PV-11.
Usual
repair on these involves replacement of defective parts and a
upgrade of caps.
Due to the level of performance expected of C-J equipment we
advise using premium caps as replacement.
Usual repair / upgrade cost range will be between $250-450.00,
depending on model. Some extensive mods are more, please contact
us if you have any questions.
If a simple repair without cap upgrade is desired the cost
should be in the range of 150.00 - 200.00
Power amps:
MV-45,75,100:
These usually will have overheated resistors, degraded coupling
caps, and breakdown of soldering. We have a standard repair /
upgrade for these of $350.00 which includes resoldering,
replacing resistors and coupling caps and cleaning solder rosin residue
from the circuit boards.
MV-55:
Perhaps the most popular C - J amp, usual cause of problems are
solder defects and burnt screen resistors. Cap replacement is
usually not recommended for these models
Usual cost of basic repair 175.00 plus major parts.
Most early production C - J power amps are supplied with a
completely inadequate power cord. Different retrofit options
are available at minimal cost and are recommended.
Premier Series:
Usually only isolated component failure, tend to be repair only
due to high quality components used in this line.
Please note that we are a privately owned service company and do
not perform warranty service on Conrad-Johnson products. If your
C-J is under warranty please contact Conrad-Johnson
directly.
