REPAIR:
This corrects the fault with your equipment, replaces any defective or degraded parts and restores your unit to the condition it was in before failure. All switches and controls are cleaned and the unit is tested and checked. You will be called and advised as to what we find out about your amp and what service options may be recommended, if any. Most well maintained vintage and new production equipment will fall into this category.
RESTORATION:
This option is for equipment that has either been used for years without any service, has been repaired using incorrect parts, or has been messed up due to poor quality work or ill-advised mods. We replace all resistors in signal sections with our standard carbon composition parts and all non - original or defective coupling caps are changed, usually using Mallory 150's or caps closest to the properties of the original parts. Leaking and dried out filter caps are replaced as well as all bypass caps. Your amp is restored to original wiring (mods can be left untouched at your discretion). Any poor quality pre-existing repair work is redone and all controls, jacks and switches are cleaned. We do not routinely change film (tone) caps unless by customer request, are actually defective or have been replaced with improper parts in the past as these are critical to the sound of a vintage amplifier.
CUSTOM:
This is similar to restoration, except that the best possible components are used and you have a choice in the voicing and sonic quality of the completed project.
We use the best quality mil-spec molded carbon composition resistors, true foil and dielectric wrap and fill caps, extra high temperature filter caps and mil-spec wire-wound silicone power resistors. All bypass caps are replaced with high-performance caps. Choice of caps can voice the amp to neutral vintage (standard), mellow jazz, country twang or even garage band raunchy if so desired. Gain can be adjusted, EQ profile shifted, reverb tone and drive altered. Reversible options can be installed such as output stage profile switching, triode/pentode switching, dual mode/dual bias, rebiasing for different output tubes. We can use some of our noise reduction tricks to lower hum and noise without altering the sonic signature if your amp. We can work with you to provide you with the sound you are looking for but will not sacrifice reliability or safety. We do strongly advise that really collectable vintage amps not be extensively modified. In some cases we will decline work that we feel would ruin a piece of vintage equipment.
