I enjoy making things myself. I make my own quilts (some with matching pillow shams), crochet afghans/pillows, make my own SCA costumes (14th - 16th century styles), embroidery, and paint in oils and water colors). I spin my own wool to make my own yarns. I use a drop spindle, and have made a spinning wheel out of PVC and a bike rim. I love growing my own plants and herbs. I do not drink instant coffee, or use instant potatoes. What fun would it be by not making things from scratch?
My homemade soaps are made with the best ingredients available to me. I use tallow, olive, coconut and castor oils in every batch. I also add extra special oils such as palm kernal, apricot, almond, emu, and ostrich oils. I use cocoa, mango, and shea butters. Every batch is made in my kitchen and is carefully calculated so that it will be mild as well as luxurious.
Do you know that most commercial soaps that you buy from stores are not really soaps at all........but detergent? Commercial soaps have the glycerin removed and detergents added. Glycerin is great for your skin, it is a natural, gentle emollient. If you have never used handmade soaps, then you will be in for a special treat.
