Usher is the sexy young R&B singer best known for his hit tune You Make Me Wanna and his fancy footwork on stage. His new album 8701 is already a smashing success!
Usher Raymond IV was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and moved to Atlanta with his family when he was 12. He started singing in the church choir (led by his mom Jonetta Patton) when he was six years old. When Usher was 14 he was spotted at a talent show by a record executive from LaFace Records. Eventually the company signed the young singer while he was still in high school.
In 1994 Usher released his first album, Usher which was executive produced by P. Diddy (Puff Daddy.) The album gave Usher his first top 10 hit with Think Of You. It wasn't long until Coca-Cola came knocking a year later and snagged him to do a jingle for the holidays. He also teamed up with R&B singer Monica on her album for a remake of Let's Straighten It Out.
After graduating highschool in 1997,Usher released his second album titled My Way. His first single You Make Me Wanna became a huge hit and was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance. Usher also had a second top 10 hit with his song Nice & Slow. In 1998 Janet Jackson grabbed him as an opening act for her Velvet Rope Tour.
Usher Raymond has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The American Music Awards. Although he loves singing and performing he is also known for his acting. Usher's acted in a few shows and movies including roles in the teen flicks, The Faculty and Light It Up as well as the cowboy movie Texas Rangers.
Last August 2001, Usher released the album 8701. This album has more of a hip-hop feel and the R&B's a little edgier. So far, the response to the first single U Remind Me has been great. More than likely Usher Raymond will be takin' that sexy bod on tour to promote this latest album, 8701 - so keep your fingers crossed he'll be coming to a venue near you.
