A Short Biography Of Ven. Pannadipa
Ven. Pannadipa was born in Burma (Myanmar) on the date of 23rd May 1968. His parents are U Tun Shien and Daw Sann Aye, who live at Kyun-bo-pin village, Yezagyo townships, in the dry-zone of central Burma. He is the eldest among his siblings.
At the age of eight, he was sent to a monastic school to start his education. Six years later, on 30th May 1982, he was ordained as a novice according to the Burmese tradition under the preceptor Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nandiya of Shwe-bon-tha monastery in his native village. Three weeks later, his teacher sent him to Sasana Mandaing Pali University in Pegu to study Buddha's Teachings. Her did his studies there for seven years so as to pass the "Higher Level Examination" called "Pathama Gyee" in Burmese.
When he was twenty years old, on the date of 16th July 1988, he was ordained under the preceptor Sayadaw Bhaddanta Paduma of Aung Min Khaung Kyaung Taik in Pegu and became a full-fledged monk. The supporter of four requisites for him is Saw Si in Pegu.
After that, in 1990, he moved to Rangoon (Yangon) for further studies of Buddhist Scriptures under various teachers. In 1998, he passed the Dhammacariya Examination, held by the state so that he was entitled to use the "Degree of Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya". At the same year, he completed the crash course in English, Myanmar and computer. Meanwhile he realized the important role of English to communication worldwide and propagate Buddha's Teachings all over the world. Therefore, he made up his mind to study English. Before studying English, he practised intensive Vipassana Insight Meditation at Mahasi Meditation Centre, Rangoon, until his meditation master was satisfied with his practice.
Thereafter, he joined the Mahasi Training School for Foreign Buddhist Missions. There he studied Buddhist Scriptures in English for four years and completed a course of Training Meditation Teacher in English. So he achieved five skills of Dhamma Talk, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening or International Level. As a result, the Buddhasasananuggaha Organization has recognized him as a " Successful Mahasi International Meditation Teacher" since 2003.
Before that, he shared his knowledge with the young novices and monks at Kan Htoo Kyaung Taik, Pegu in 1995 and at Pasadikayon Kyaung Taik, Rangoon in 1996, too. Especially, in summer holiday, he had introduced the 'Basic Buddhism' to the young students at Mahasi Meditation Centre, Rangoon from 1990 to 2003. Besides, in accordance with his pastime, he writes and translates some articles, short stories and poems under the pen name of Maung Mon Yi.
Actually, he has been rendering his services to Mahasi Meditation Centre as an active member of Mahasi Sangha Organization and supervising local and foreign meditators (Yogis) as a meditation teacher and an interpreter as well. In 2005, the committee of Buddhist Hermitage Lunas, Malaysia, invited him to assist Ven, Dr. Sunanda. So he spent for six months as B.H.L.
In 2006, He went back to Mahasi Meditation Centre, Burma again and took duties there and studied graphic design when free.Again in 2007, he is invited by the committee of Kota Tinggi Buddhist Society to spend Vassa and conduct Vipassana, Insight Medition to the faithfuls,
Presently, he is at Santisukharama Meditation Centre of Kota Tinggi, leading Insight Meditation retreats, preaching Buddha's Teachings and propagating Buddha Sasana to the faithfuls.
